Caffeine&Machine Presents: Mercedes Yard Meet @ The Bowl monday 16.59

Quite local, and I was tempted, but doubted the lowly e220 ragtop would be of any interest.

The UK Politics & Brexit Thread

Nicely written, I fortunately work for a company that is niche manufacturing and we have a few hundred apprentices like you describe streamed over three years from level 3/4 engineering to level 6 degree (business and manufacturing) based, all on day release schemes. The pool size increases...

    The EV fact thread

Somewhere in my brain, there’s a voice saying but this is normal, 50% depreciation over three years is more or less correct. As it is, we bought used, and for our local (well 50 miles radius) needs it’s the right vehicle. The instant torque is a hoot at the traffic light derby as well. 🤪

    The EV fact thread

It’s still easier to control and account for the emissions from a fossil fuel power station than it is to manage 10k Cars in various states of repair and tune.

    Not on EBay but……

The MD of Mercedes-Benz Finance, summed it up nicely I think. BMWs are for smart people who are climbing the corporate ladder, their success written by themselves. Mercedes are for those who have achieved it. I quite like them (and indeed have owned a few) but push comes to shove, I prefer my...

What are the chances of that?

In the early naughties, I was a London commuter. Oh dark stupid train into town, and whilst waiting on the underground platform, positioned like any hardened commuter within inches of the expected door opening. I felt a tap on my shoulder, I ignored it assuming it was someone saying step back...

    The EV fact thread

Most EVs can compete with ICE cars for intergalactic mileage before they get recycled. Early battery life has to be accounted for, as does range. Our current EV does around 170 to a full charge depths of winter nearer 130. More than enough to run errands, do the shop, take the gang out on a...

NATO is not the EU, they are two separate entities, joining NATO does not give you free travel in Europe etc you raise valid points, but you are arguing the wrong case.

The UK Politics & Brexit Thread

Surely NATO is not devouring countries or causing anger? It’s simply a treaty organisation that has at its core mutual defence of all members - attack one, attack all. It doesn’t arrive by bombing the capital, or rolling in tanks setting a curfew etc. it does insist that member countries...

What would you drive out of these 3 choices

Cortina for me, I used to tool around in 1.6L Cortina 80, it was quite sufficient in the mid 80s. I used to borrow the pool Cavalier to go to Bristol (from Welwyn Garden City) once a month and whilst it was fine, I preferred the Ford. Never understood the weird dash of the Marina. Capris and...

    Run Flat yes or no?

Part of the question could be decided on profile. I had 30/35s on one E class and it went through 7 tyres in the year due to punctures at roadworks mainly on the m1. Latest E class has 17s, old man tyres and a proper spare in the boot. I ride in comfort.

Whats your strategy for year 2030 / ban of ICE vehicles?

Probably less than 40% on a grey day like today. But it’s easier to manage emission control and ensure you get optimum use of fuel in a power station than it is in 10,000 or so cars.

Whats your strategy for year 2030 / ban of ICE vehicles?

Home owner pays, sometimes you get a deal with a new car that they will pay the install - best price I’ve found is £510, we used ours for a year on the 13amp charger. Car sockets are now standard (ish) with just Tesla being the odd ball, you will find that most cars cars are now type 2, and CCS...

Whats your strategy for year 2030 / ban of ICE vehicles?

Most home charge ports are new wired back to the fuse box, or to the main switch into the house. It’s basically a dedicated 32amp feed (think cooker/electric shower feed). Mines into the garage which has a tethered (attached) cable then when we want to charge the errands car we just run the...

Whats your strategy for year 2030 / ban of ICE vehicles?

And for the cost of a few amps, you can have a warm/defrosted car waiting for you, even if you’ve only got to do three miles down the road.

Whats your strategy for year 2030 / ban of ICE vehicles?

EV for local, ICE for longer range and classic for the pub car park. Pretty much where I am now, apart from I’ve got two pub classics. I expect public EV charging will be sorted in five or six years so the long range ICE may go.
