Hi Retiredslider..... it doesn't throw a fault code and only judders from 3rd to 4th gear (or if you accelerate carefully on the motorway you feel it around 1600/1900 RPM (68 to 70 mph approx). It changes gear slowly although some change downs can be like a small bump. I have it back now though...

Cheers guys. How much is a worn torque converter to replace? The oil is described as black and very smelly, possibly something is burning / burnt in the gearbox they said. I'm up near Chester unfortunately so those guys down south are too far..... I can get a replacement box for £650 plus...

Thanks mate. I guess this would also explain why, if the engine is cold and Infloornot, the car is reluctant to have the revs go over 4500 / 5000 or so and bounces around a bit on the Rev counter there? When it's warm, no such issue?

Steve. I have an old W Reg 310D and had the same issues in reverse, I couldn't get my van to blow cool. When you turn the hot / cold dial it pulls on a cable and opens up / closes a vent above the heater blower in the engine bay. I'll bet that cable is not connected properly at either the end...

Ok cool, thanks! I might have the steering looked at, it does feel a little heavy. Our other car is a new A6 and the steering is light as a feather.
