Sachs front shock with two flats (Not allan type) tool name?

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. So the spring compressor arrived in between posts. It's faulty :-( I could see instantly there was a problem, hydraulic fluid covering over half the length of the box. On inspection the box appeared to be resealed, not a great sign. Opening the box...

Sachs front shock with two flats (Not allan type) tool name?

Thanks for reply. Ok, but what about undoing the nut when the spring is compressed and the strut is loose, won't the piston require retaining? This is the first time I have tackled this job and all correct instructions I have seen employ a go-thru socket and either an alan socket to retain the...

Sachs front shock with two flats (Not allan type) tool name?

Hi, Could someone please educate me on the name of the tool required to hold the central piston on a Sachs shock that has two flats? I have a go-thru socket set that should work just fine on the nut itself but I suspect I will need to stop the piston turning while working the nut. Car: S211...

Brake pads partly rubbing on disk (sounds like a steam train)

Fitted new hub front wheel drivers side.... no change. :-( On a bright note pretty much everything wheel and brake related up front is brand new now;-) I'm actually left with tyres though I did rotate them, but they are the same make, they are also winter tyres as never bothered changing back...

Brake pads partly rubbing on disk (sounds like a steam train)

Glad you sorted your issue. I still have the problem but in my case it can't be the parking brake since the problem is on the front wheel. Received new hub assembly with pre fitted bearings yesterday, so aiming to fit today. The only thing left to replace is the bearings, brake disk and pads...

Brake pads partly rubbing on disk (sounds like a steam train)

Ok so I think I know what the spongy foam thing is / was.... it what the ABS / speed sensor sits in. :wallbash: Actually ignore the the above. I saw the sponge thing on a video of a s-class w220, I don't think it applies to the W211 setup.

Brake pads partly rubbing on disk (sounds like a steam train)

Thanks for your replies. Sorry to hear you also have this similar problem Neiltod. So circling back with an update. Turned some spacers so as to tighten the brake disc to hub with the wheel nuts, without the wheel attached, this is required so as to get an even mount across the face. Without...

Brake pads partly rubbing on disk (sounds like a steam train)

Thanks for your reply, I did clean the hub face with lite abrasive particularly around were rust spots were showing. One thing to note I also gave the hub a lite smear of copper grease. (not sure if this was a good idea) Incidentally the hub and knuckle was replaced sometime years ago due to a...

Brake pads partly rubbing on disk (sounds like a steam train)

Hi Folks, I hope someone can help. My S211 E280 2008 Estate has this weird issue on the offside brake caliper and disc. When rotating the wheel it partly rubs in a certain place which makes a shhsh shhsh shhsh noise while driving, particularly prominent when creeping along in traffic. Can also...

    Air Conditioner Condenser Removal?

Apologies if wrong section folks, was not sure what section to post this message. W211 E280 Estate (S211) 2008 Is it possible to remove / replace the air conditioner condenser without disconnecting transmission and coolant lines? It looks like the car has a small auxiliary transmission cooler...

E Class Estate rear suspension height level sensor arm broken

I have a similar issue with a 2008 S211 (w211 estate) in that the drivers side (uk) is riding higher than the passenger side. I am reading conflicting information concerning the levelling sensor. Does the w211 estate have a single sensor somewhere in the centre of rear axle or does it have two...

W211 E280 Estate (wagon) rear air suspension auto ajusting?

Thanks you for confirming Bruce, I was concerned for a while there. This morning while looking out of the window I convinced myself it had lowered while sitting on my drive overnight, but it had not :-)

    Front passenger wheel getting hot

Jack up car As already mentioned check for break calliper / pad binding by rotating the wheel. Check wheel bearings for play by rocking wheel at 12 and 6 oclock positions also try at 9 and 3 oclock positions, you can also bang the tyre with side of hand in same positions as this can also...

W211 E280 Estate (wagon) rear air suspension auto ajusting?

Hi All Is it normal operation that W211 E280 Estate (wagon) rear air suspension re-adjusts after being in raised position on a jacking point type car lift for some time? Noticed that I couldn't slide out the jacking arms since the car was too low until starting it which then auto levelled...

Front drivers side bearing exploded at 80MPH!

Still own this car it has done very little miles less than an additional 2k since my original post and it experienced another catastrophic bearing failure on the opposite front wheel and again there were no obvious sign of pending failure. No noise build up, no knocking, nothing and just like...

W211 Parking Break Warning Light / Alarm?

Hi Folks, Should the w211 estate e280 alert or warn when parking brake engaged? I can't count how many time I have set off down the road and forgetting to release the darn thing. Having adjusted the parking brakes on more occasions than I'd like to admit due to the above I thought it high...

Front drivers side bearing exploded at 80MPH!

Thank you for all your replies Folks. As stated the good news is no one was injured so gladly at most we are only talking about material things. My initial negative feeling toward Mercedes is really down to the experience I have experienced with this vehicle over the time of my ownership...

Front drivers side bearing exploded at 80MPH!

Thanks for your replies. Oh really, I thought the MOT centre would do a wheel wobble test ie grabbing the wheel and feeling for play or at the very least rotate the wheel to feel for friction. In the past I had a failure determined by this method though it was many years ago on a Ford Cortina...
