The autobox on my '98 SLK230 has started occasionally hunting up and down the gears even on a flat straight road at a constant speed. Had a gearbox oil and filter change at garage before I bought it in March, and has been fine up until about a week ago. Have not noticed it on / at motorway...

Westfield do a very similar vehicle but also offered (last time I looked) a 'wide bodied' version. Not sure how much more room there is in the cockpit, but might be worth a look....

Don't know if it's of any help, but I recently had similar problem with my '98 SLK, fob wouldn't operate central locking and then car wouldn't start - 'start error' being displayed on dash. AA couldn't find any reason, but disconnecting battery for a couple of minutes seemed to reset everything...

Have an Alpine TDA -7562R head unit c/w çd changer and remote fitted in my SLK, sound quality is good and everything works perfectly. ..... except the display which doesn't work at all! Really didn't want to change unit but am struggling to find anyone who can repair it or supply a working face...

had a similar situation several years ago when my Saab 900 was hit... his insurance company offered me £450 at first..... eventually they paid for repairs of just over £2500..... although I did have to use one of those non fault companies to progress it.... keep pushing to get your car repaired.

I used 'my car check', they're still showing it as a C220, they are obviously slow updating their records in light of the 'spot' and your investigation.

Apparently 80 O is a valid plate and was on a grey C220....... could it have been that transfered?
