Thanks cheddar I've not had the car long and don't think I've even opened that door since I purchased the car, certainly not before driving off in the last week or so. Will post an update tomorrow and maybe something will become clear to me? :)

Thanks MancMike, There is no chime or anything like that. Having read your reply, I will try tomorrow with someone sitting in the rear nearside seat, first with and then without the seat belt engaged. That might help identify whether there are sensors in the rear and whether this is a warning or...
