Stop folding it in. 👍 Possibly worn cogs with broken teeth , best not used winter time when it's hard frosty mornings. It'll need stripping down to see what's what . Broken wires are common also , but that may mean it won't fold at all ??

One other thing springs to mind , never charge the battery via the battery posts . The battery monitoring system won't recognize the charge, you can use the live but use an earth from the chassis or something before the earth on the battery. 👍. Hook up the battery charger earth to the BMS...

Check battery connections in the boot , my w211 did this . I loosened them and turned them , then tightened again.

Think it's more to do with the emergency services and the people involved in the crash .last thing you need is acid getting on you. To the op. Why not just charge the battery that's fitted if the car is going to be sold. Bit of a waste of money tbh.

Chances are you'll need a wiring kit ,which consists of a new connector and lengths of wire. Maybe try tape or a cable tie.
