Ml270 black smoke when stationary 03 March 2019

FYI - I’ve replaced the whole engine wiring loom and that hasn’t cured the issue. At least all the sensors are now reporting which makes a change. There were several broken wires in the old loom :(

    Car Stolen by Scumbags

When I replace my motorbike I’ll be attempting to hide a cheap basic mobile phone with a decent battery life somewhere in the depths of it. I guess it won’t take too long to find on a motorbike but hiding one in a car near a 12v supply should buy you some time to locate the car? There are apps...

    Car Stolen by Scumbags

I think the manufacturers need to take some responsibility and remove the old and insecure single factor authorisation. If we have to move away from encoded keys there are a lot of secure methods that could be used. Fingerprint readers have been around for years, how difficult could it be to...

    Car Stolen by Scumbags

I’ve never owned a keyless car so I have little knowledge of the ins and outs of them but surely you need to have your key near the car for it to continue working? What’s to prevent you setting off while leaving your key at home to then turn the car off when you arrive and discover you don’t...

    W639 Vito fuel pump

My Viano usually runs for a few seconds at most. Worthy of note is that if the fuel light is on and I reverse onto my drive which is about a 15 degrees incline and leave the car more than a day or so it won’t start. I’ve had to roll it onto the street and then cycle the ignition a few times to...

    Car Stolen by Scumbags

Since having my motorcycle stolen I’ve been looking into CCTV that you can configure to set an alarm off if someone enters a specific zone. If it went off my Staffy would be the first one out of the door who would happily ‘welcome’ anyone onto my property that he doesn’t know... I don’t think...

    Car Stolen by Scumbags

Sorry to hear about your car, some people just don’t have any morals or respect for other people belongings. I had my motorcycle stolen just before Christmas, the police were just a waste of time, they don’t have the resources. If I had ‘keyless’ car I’d put something like this on during the...

    Vito DPF differential pressure sensor

I know it’s a 15 min job to remove the DPF on a Vito 120 / Viano 3.0. If I was in your position I’d take the DPF to a local garage with a jet wash (or preferably a steam cleaner) and reverse wash the DPF, refit and attempt a regen. 07 Viano 3.0

Ml270 black smoke when stationary 03 March 2019

Not that this helps you but I have a very similar issue as in I get the smoke and the car is really try to creep at standstill. Has there been any work done in the car recently? (I suspect my issue to be an electrical problem, possibly a grounding issue for some of the sensors but I haven’t...

Do the revs increase when you press the accelerator and the car move off as normal? Do you have access to a code reader (ideally MB Star) 07 Viano 3.0

Vito Engine - grey heavy smoke

Useful to know! :) I always approach things from an optimistic point of view so I would check the simpler (and usually) cheaper options first. Maybe a sensible approach would be to find an Indy with good knowledge of your engine to confirm the PCV, they’ll be loads cheaper than MB! I also need...

Vito Engine - grey heavy smoke

Hmm, I’m very surprised that you don’t have a PCV valve! I’m no expert, I’m sure someone on the forum may know more about the engine than I do.... Do you have a small (maybe about an inch in diameter) pipe connecting into the intake pipe that is in between your turbo and air box? If you do...

    Viano purchase help!!

Is it a trade sale? If so, have you shared the faults details with the dealer? Maybe they’ll sort them before purchase? 07 Viano 3.0

    Viano purchase help!!

I’ve only ever driven my 3.0 and when it works it’s great but it’s mainly a family holiday wagon to pull a big twin axle caravan. I dare say a 150/163 Bhp would suffice but love the smoothness of the V6. If it’s going to be a mile muncher then expect about 35 on the motorway, it might be better...

    Viano purchase help!!

If it’s the one on Autotrader for £15,500 with 110,500 miles it’s looks well cared for. From the photos I would say it doesn’t have electric doors as the outer switches don’t appear to have legends on them. If the services stack up then I’d buy it if I was in the market. It’s an unusual colour...

    Viano purchase help!!

Might be worth listing a bit more info about the 2nd Viano:- Engine 2.2 / 3.0? How many seats does it have (does it have the rear table as these are expensive)? At that mileage one has to assume it’s been either a taxi or chauffeur’s car. How many stamps, what’s mileage between stamps, where...

STAR/iCarsoft/General Fault Reading help for the forum

.+1 I live in Wakefield (near Leeds West Yorkshire). Without wanting to hijack the thread I suggested a short while ago the possibility of having a thread that lists various engine (etc) parameters from a known good engine. It’s great being able to read codes and values but if you don’t know...

    E350 CDI EGR Issues?

I’ve just fixed an issue with the EGR on my OM642 by disconnecting the plug and cleaning the contacts. When I reconnected it was working again. I was very surprised as this is the best you can hope for! It’s worth a try.. My EGR is at the front of the engine as it’s in a Viano/Vito but usually...
