W202 C250D (manual gearbox) stuck in first gear

Had to abort a road trip yesterday due to not being able to select gears. Car is stuck in first. Shifter feels physically stuck - I resisted the temptation to force it, decided instead that being stuck in first was better than being stuck in neutral, and limped home with the engine screaming at...

    W202 estate boot lock

Turns out the battery's flat (that'll teach me for letting the 2 year old play in it) so I can't lock the car by remote. I've manually locked the doors, and there's what looks like a key lock hidden under the flap (above number plate) on the boot but the key won't go in all the way, and won't...

    W202 wiper problem

Just when I needed it to go wrong, with 2 tired (crying) kids in the back, heavy rain, and a main road closed off causing gridlocked traffic... 1st service W202 C250

Ordering some bits to do a service on my "new" car. Not sure when the last one was done, but the oil looks fairly nasty. 1: Which oil? It's done 167000 miles. 10W40 or heavier? Haynes recommends 10W40 up to 15W50. Leaning towards shell HX5 15W40 - fairly cheap at Euro. 2: Will the oil drain OK...

    Spare key

Sorry, this has probably been asked a million times before... Just bought a W202, it came with just one key. Could do with a spare... Where to go, and what to pay? I am in North London. Electronic keys are new to me... But if it makes any difference the key is only used to operate the...

Hello, just bought my first Merc

Thought I'd better introduce myself... just bought a 1997 C250 (W202). It's a fairly basic manual "esprit" estate with 167000 on the clock. Rusty arches, and due a service, but seems solid and goes well. I love it. Weirdly I saw it for sale outside a local repair garage (Automerc), got a good...
