Agree, get the fault code read. Or do it yourself with your phone and a £15 ebay OBD bluetooth adapter. I had similar on my vito with same OM651 engine and a friend is having same this week... in both cases... DPF delta pressure sensor faulty. Quite easy to replace yourself and can be picked up...

I got a £10 endoscope from Euro Car Parts .... very useful thing. Saw round the back and think I spotted the source - one of two cap screws holding the 90deg elbow onto that EGR pre-cooler was loose. No idea how that would cause an oil leak.... but that's the leading theory. Ran out of time...

Update: confirmed it has the factory option -yay! Now hooked up to a busbar/fusebix I mounted under drivers seat and using to power a fridge, some interior lights and usb ports.

Meant to say: local merc commercial dealer confirmed the dual battery thing on my van was supplied new as a factory option. Seems previous owners BBC Manchester never used it, as the terminals looked untouched, so the batt has just been sat there kept in 100% state of charge for 5years!
