As above; iCarsoft MB is a decent code reader :-) I used it until I upgraded to an Autel; but thats overkill for DIY purposes.

Have you checked to see if you have an airlock somewhere in the system? Before all this oil mess happened, when the car was warmed up did you try and stick the heater on full blast and see if the outcoming air from the air vents was indeed hot?

Most indys tend to avoid jobs like these because they can sink in hours of diagnostic work trying to get to the root of the problem and come out none the wiser; again a money pit for them especially if the customer turns around and says wait a minute you've charged me £hundreds and its still not...

Have you had it plugged into a computer and had any error codes looked into first? That would be my first port of call.
