    easy way to remove ml steering rack

    You only have to remove the driver's side driveshaft. No need to remove diff. You have to remove one of the metal pipes on the rack to clear the diff though. When fitting new rack you'll have to remove same pipe and refit after installation, that way it clears the diff. We did this job last...

    W164 prop shaft bearing

    Had prop bearing go on my ML270. It produced a dry whirring noise from under the car when on the move which was really annoying. Got a used propshaft off ebay for 40 quid and still fine a year later so give it a try there.

    Whirring Noise from below floor.....

    had car up on ramp yesterday. Front propshaft has badly worn u/j which also looks rusty. I notice that they are replaceable so it's off to specialist on Monday get new u/j fitted. Will see if noise away but if not, that at least eliminates one problem I didn't know I had.

    It doesn't change with gear changes but increases in pitch as road speed increases so guess it's coming from somewhere after the gearbox
