    OK you part timers :rolleyes: there's a single self-tapping screw at the back of the unit holding the SAM in place. It's bluddy difficult to see but it's there. All in it's 3 T15 screws. Luckily I had a mate pop over who done a swap-out once upon a time. Check-out the PCB :eek:

    Nope. Sadly the unit must come out. Apart from 2 screws and some cables on the topside of the box most of the gubbins connecting the unit must be disconnected from the rear. WTF !! At this point it looks like I need to start with dismantling the exhaust and work my way forward. Half the car...

    Thanks Dino. There are 2 fuse boxes in the front. 1st under the hood back left the other in the door jab drivers side on the side of the console.     You can't run the engine if the regulator is burnt out you burn out the battery and risk your electronics

    Yep, lightweight. It's off now. Quite a long bit of rope! However the alternator is still in place as I couldn't get at the 2 star 12's under the unit so I jumped onto fleabay and bought a star spanner set. Now all I have to do is find a way to test the regular once I have it in hand

    ah ha! Yes I'm on the OEM the car has only done 85,000 but the alternator is shot and the belt don't look too grand either. Yep, I have the Etype socket. The thing is I've been using a whimpy 1/4 wrench to loosen off the Etype 12mil. Ok I'll tighten those up again and go on the grovel for a 3/8...
