TV Tuner, Great picture, No Sound. 2003 SL55

Ah, I must admit I didn't look that closely and just assumed it was on the fibre. That may be a game changer then! :) Thanks for all the info, really appreciate it. If the weather ever improves enough for me to get it out of the garage to look at......

Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here. The fibre must be digital by definition, and I assume it is not that dissimilar to Ethernet over Fibre but I could be wrong on that. That's why I assumed everything went over the fibre, particularly as I know common faults...

    R170 SLK230 Steering Geometry Challenge

Counting the threads wasn't really an option as everything is covered in crud and rust. I can say with certainty that both track rod ends look to be pretty even in adjustment. I've just replaced the steering damper which has improved the driving experience exponentially, the old one having no...

TV Tuner, Great picture, No Sound. 2003 SL55

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but having read through this again it raises one question for me. I assumed that both the audio and video are fed to the head unit via the D2B fibre bus. If that is the case then that tells me the fault has to be with the tuner. If it was a comms problem between...

    R170 SLK230 Steering Geometry Challenge

Thanks for the reply. Yes the Ackerman angle seems to be wrong when on full left lock. In a straight line both the idler and Pitman arms are straight. There aren't any adjuster threads on the idler so I'm not sure what you're referring to there. I can't remember without checking, but I didn't...

    R170 SLK230 Steering Geometry Challenge

I'm guessing this information isn't easily available. My next plan will be to buy a replacement idler / intermediate arm and compare it to the one that's on the car. I guess if they're the same then it will be the Pitman arm that's at fault. In the meantime I need to get the roof working. The...

    R170 SLK230 Steering Geometry Challenge

Morning All. Would anyone happen to know where I can find dimension details for the Pitman arm and idler for an R170 please? Symptoms. When in a straight line the car drives fine. When turning to the right everything also seems fine. When turning to the left the left front wheel scrubs badly...

    My Metalwork

Well there's been a bit of water under the bridge since I last posted here. I've moved house and my son has been using the SLK230 for the last year or so. I got it back last week, so as all the Mercs were filthy we had a car washing afternoon. Now it's clean I need to fix all the broken bits my...

    My Metalwork

It was a really crappy design so yes it happened a few times to me. Not with this car, but the previous Monza GSE I owned I built a one off 24v 3.0L engine for it so it would use a modified LE Jetronic fuel management and standard ancillaries, but I also converted the car from auto to manual. It...

    My Metalwork

Certainly did. It was a no cost option back in the day, and people liked it! As you can see, it also suffered from the "Stuck in Km's" fault before I fixed it!

I've run out of enthusiasm again. Currently watching some of the BTCC. :)

Finally took a look at the fuses today. All that I could find seem ok but I couldn't find fuse 55. I finally made some effort and dug out the fuse location sheet from my owners handbook stuff and it shows fuse 55 as being horizontal at one end of a row of vertical fuses. My car doesn't have them...

    My Metalwork

They do look good don't they. The problem I have is that I'm not very good at keeping cars clean let alone making them look better. It's a weird thing for me. The SL is mostly a fantastic car, but if I'm being honest, I'm far more attached to the old SLK230. No idea why really, other than I...

    My Metalwork

Funnily enough neither am I, but they were refurbished a year or so before I bought the car and had almost new tyres when I bought it so I'll live with them for now! Bought in January with 79k on the clock, now not far short of 83k and apart from the bits I've broken, all good! Bar the boot...

Hi All, Some photos of our cars The R171 SLK is my wife's... The SL55 with the SLK350 in the background. Can you guess what it is yet? It's what I was in to before MB came calling!

Not silly at all. I did test the media player using the same cable on my home TV and it seemed to work ok so pretty confident it is ok. I also tested two cables with two different phones in both ports so I'm largely stumped now as I still don't think the tuner is faulty.

I'm not sure why I said there was a good independent in Wellingborough when I meant Rushden. I think they're called H A Lock. Being a bank holiday I think they'll be shut until Tuesday but I'll give them a call to see if they can help. I will try Dronsfield as well. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you! I'm just off to collect a trailer from MK so I'll check this when I get back. I'm so impressed with this forum / club. The culture here seems really friendly and helpful.

Ha, Will do. The SL needs a clean and the SLK350 is stuck in my garage in bits at the moment, but I'm sure I can rustle something up. I'll post some photos of my previous toys as well. Hope you like 70's & 80's Opels! Thank you for that. It was worth the ask.
