1993 A124 320CE Outside temperature display sensor cable removed!

When I bought my car last year I found the sensor and cable neatly coiled up next to the fuse box, with the two pin connector removed. I am assuming this was removed because of a problem, although it seems rather drastic. I also discovered the connector at the back of the display module had...

    A124 320CE Cabriolet no 4th gear on 5 speed auto box 722.5

Update. I’ve just tried the code reader in a friend’s w124 320 and it worked as intended in socket 13, so the fault is definitely within the wiring in my car, but hopefully not the ECU!

    A124 320CE Cabriolet no 4th gear on 5 speed auto box 722.5

I have discovered that my automatic 5 speed 'box changes straight from 3rd to 5th. I have tested this by moving the selector from D to 4 at just over 60 mph, but nothing happens, it just stays in 5th. The RPM at 60 are about 2,300, which seems to be correct for 5th gear. Other than the missing...

    W124 320CE Won't start

Yes, it was the OVP relay, so all is well again. I've read elsewhere that a faulty OVP relay is unlikely to disable the car, but now I know differently! Thank you everyone for your interest and support.

    W124 320CE Won't start

Today I checked the sockets on the OVP relay connector and pin 1 was a permanent live and pin 3 was only live with the ignition on, so all present and correct so far. I then guessed the immobiliser was not the issue, so decided to bench test the relay itself, which now seemed to be the main...

    W124 320CE Won't start

Thanks Graeme. I have just read post number 4 again, which now makes more sense. I have removed the OVP relay and the fuse looks OK. However, I noticed it rattles - surely that's not right? Dismantling to investigate doesn't look as easy as the FPR. The circuits are more complex than the...

    W124 320CE Won't start

Firstly, I must admit that electrics are not one of my strong points. Anyway, from the diagram on the FPR, pins 30 and 87 provide the circuit, via an actuator arm, to the pump(s). Pins 85 and 86 provide power to the coil that activates the actuator arm, thus completing the circuit for the...

    W124 320CE Won't start

I've just replaced the OVP with a copper and ceramic one, even though the old one was fine. I will be carrying out a few checks tomorrow. I've also been sent information on how to disable the immobiliser, should that be the main suspect.

    W124 320CE Won't start

Yes, it was fully charged, but I've ordered a new battery anyway, since I believe it shouldn't discharge noticeably in 3 weeks. I believe there should be a short hum from the fuel pump when turning on the ignition, which I'm not hearing. I will check power to the FPR first.

    W124 320CE Won't start

I went to use my 320CE cabriolet the other day, but the battery had discharged enough not to turn over the engine. After charging the battery, the engine would not fire. I replaced the fuel pump relay, but still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas where I should start investigating? The car...

    Wanted - Seat Belt control unit 140 820 25 26 please

I've established the control unit in my A124 320 CE cabriolet is not operating the left side presenter correctly. There don't seem to be any on eBay in the UK at the moment. Also used in the C140.

1993 A124 320CE cabriolet seat belt presenter problem

Today I swapped the control unit under the rear seat (140 820 25 26) with one that is known to work, supplied by a fellow enthusiast who lives nearby, but there was no change. We then tested and cleaned all three microswitches, which appeared to function as intended. Neveretheless, since I now...

1993 A124 320CE cabriolet seat belt presenter problem

The gears engage well and the arm moves out and back smoothly, which is why I suspect it's one or more of the switches.

W123 200/230 Getrag 5 speed manual gearbox plus parts for conversion from 4 speed

Some time ago I bought a used 5 speed gearbox and all the necessary parts to convert a 200 petrol from the 4 speed fitted. I never got round to doing it, and have now sold the car, so would like to "de-clutter". Getrag (GL275B?) gearbox, type number is 717.401 Correct 2 piece propshaft...

1993 A124 320CE cabriolet seat belt presenter problem

Thank you for your comments. This afternoon I partially dismantled the arm mechanism and found, unsurprisingly perhaps, that three teeth underneath the front of the arm were worn from where the drive cog keeps turning, even though the arm has reached the end of its rearward travel. This was the...

1993 A124 320CE cabriolet seat belt presenter problem

The left side seat belt presenter on my cabriolet was not working when I bought earlier this year, so today I removed the interior panel to investigate. I found that it had been disconnected, and when reconnected it was immediately obvious why - it makes a loud clicking noise on full...

W124 SCORPION ALARM REMOTE PLAYING UP

My 1993 A124 320CE Cabriolet has what looks like a dealer fitted Scorpion 364T alarm and immobiliser, which also operates the central locking. The problem is that the (single) remote control only works when it wants to, which is usually after I've taken it apart and put it back together again...
