Easy test is to run water through the drains, open the roof and poor a little water to the front corners of opening near the A pillars. I used curtain wire to clear mine. Roof was clear but found left and right drains at base of screen clogged.

Here's how my TC failed and symptoms. Remember my car had ~150k at this time slight grinding from gearbox at various speeds, never under hard load. sounded like "dunk dunk dunk" but not a metallic sound. - almost like a grinding / bumping never when free wheeling ie no throttle. not uphill...
