If it's using a lot of adblue then I would suspect the adblue injector is faulty. A good vehicle diagnostic garage will be able to confirm this.

My E220 cdi was exactly like this. It was the torque converter solenoid on the blink. It was easy to change and I did it myself. John

You can buy magnetic ones from most engineering tool suppliers such as Chronos, RB tools etc. I use analogue if you want it to show a movement, like a run out on a brake disc. Digital I find better for more engineering uses like repeating an absolute measure (a height gauge for instance). John

It read in the papers that the government may postpone this - fingers crossed. Their big thing is to halve inflation this year, so are looking hard at anything that contradicts this.

Could this be the TC lockup solenoid on the blink. This mainly happens when engine is cold, and you may get a rough gear change 1st to 2nd . When cold go up a hill, if the engine revs fluctuate that could be another sign. If it is this then it is a pretty easy fix. John

My abs sensor went on the rear offside wheel. Apart from the two warning lights you mention it wouldn't go into cruise control until fixed. Mine was the ABS RIng, not the (easier) pulse sensor, a bit more expensive but not too bad. John

Black smoke under acceleration is often caused by a faulty egr, and and 100k plus miles it could be clogged up. Probably worth a try to either clean it, or block it off. There are threads on this forum that show you how to do this. John

I had this on my E class. ABS, ESP, battery and the big tell was cruise control not working, but speed limiter was. It turned out to be a rear wheel speed sensor ring. Anyway, worth trying cruise and speed limiter when you gave a chance. John

IIRC the transmission solenoids are the same, EXCEPT for the TC solenoid which has a lower resistance and is powered by a P WM ( pulse width modulation) control, which means it can be a bit on at times. John
