The head unit in my W203 is the pre 2004 version (audio 30 I think?) single din. Would I be able to fit one of the 'new style post 2004' double din units into the existing hole?

I need to remove the interior trim and panel from the rear tailgate to gain access to the washer hose. Trouble is I have removed the pop type clips round the edge of the bottom piece of trim but it doesn't want to come away. Is there something else I need to do?
