    considering gas

    No, mine's a saloon - sorry I can't help. Matt

    considering gas

The tax is very slightly lower with 'dual fuel' - I think it's only £10 per year less.

    considering gas

I've got an E240 (2.6 V6) and I get less MPG with gas - on motorway journeys I easily get over 30mpg with petrol and from rough calculations I'd reckon about 25mpg with LPG. I haven't regretted it at all - there are plenty of convenient filling stations near me, although prices do vary quite a...

    slight steering problem

I've got a similar thing on my 2001 W210 - but it only happens when the car is warm, not immediately after starting up. Sometimes sounds like a horn being blown when I turn the wheel at low speeds - parking etc. I'd be interested to see if anyone can suggest what it might be.

    E320 2dr...1996... Gearbox problems...help please

Sounds horribly familiar - I had a 1996 W210 E280 with exactly the same reverse juddering symptoms (I'd posted about it a couple of times on this forum). Tried the various suggestions of changing the gearbox oil and torque convertor fluid, but made no difference. Turns out that a clutch in the...

    considering gas

Just as an aside, it annoys me that whilst I received regular letters from Countrywide (who I have an account with for autogas) telling me that LPG has increased in price due to the rising cost of petrol, they haven't reduced the price of LPG in recent weeks in line with the slight reduction in...

    considering gas

I had my E280 W210 converted last year by Green Conversions in Warwickshire - great service, and no problems with the conversion at all (cost £1800). I also had the tank in the spare wheel recess, but if I have a conversion done again I would opt for a larger tank as I sometimes find myself...

    W210 E240 catalyst replacement?

I contacted a local garage and he's quoted me £235 + VAT for a cat from a motor factor.

    W210 E240 catalyst replacement?

I've just had a look at a 99 E240 V6 facelifted W210. It drives nicely etc etc but there's a rattle from the exhaust near the engine which sounds to me like a knackered catalytic convertor. If that's the case, what would it cost to replace? I also noticed the LCD temperature readout on the...

Autobox sticking in 2nd and vibrating

Sounds horribly familiar to my ongoing W210 E280 gearbox problem. Initially it occasionally juddered in reverse. This has become more frequent, and now there's a disconcerting thump when it changes either up or down from 2nd to 3rd gear. I've just driven 100 miles up the M5 and now it won't...

W124 reverse gear not working - advice on cost?

I've got a weird intermittent reverse problem with my W210 E280. Sometimes it works perfectly all day, then on another occasion I'll put it in reverse and it will either judder severely or rev highly and barely move. I had a quote of £1800+VAT from Bristol Transmissions to remove and rebuild the...

Oil change on an automatic gearbox for the w203?

Mercedes dealer in Worcester quoted £185 inc VAT for a gearbox oil change on my W210.

    W210 reverse problem

Just spoken to Bristol Transmissions who think it could be a problem with the reverse clutch, requiring a rebuild of the gearbox at a frightening £1800 +VAT!

    Lpg Conversion

Green Conversions in Warwickshire did the conversion last October for a cost of £1800. They are an accredited fitter and recognised by my insurance company (Direct Line) with no increase in premiums. As I mentioned, there have been no problems and I'd have no hesitation recommending an LPG...

    LPG Powered Mercedes

With my W210 E280 I get approx 22-23mpg with LPG, as opposed to 28-29mpg with petrol. LPG (where I buy it) currently costs 57p per litre and petrol 116p, so it's roughly equivalent (financially) to 40+mpg with petrol. Matt

    Lpg Conversion

I had an approved LPG conversion done on my 96 E280 last year and it has been great - no noticeable difference in performance, and much cheaper to fill up. The company that fitted it said that Mercs tend to suit conversions better than many other cars, with Range Rovers being problematic. I'd...

    W210 reverse problem

The car's at the garage, and the gearbox oil is low, but the bloke thinks it could be brake bands in the gearbox slipping. Matt

    W210 reverse problem

Over the past couple of weeks a problem has developed on my 1996 W210 E280 (92000 miles) - to start with there was an intermittent vibration when I reversed. It then became more regular, and yesterday it won't reverse on anything other than completely level ground. If the car is on a slight...

    W210 lamp defective warning

I'm getting an intermittent 'Lamp Defective' warning on the dashboard of my 1996 W210 E280. The front nearside foglamp is the culprit, but I can't work out how to access it. Maybe it is a bad connection? Any help would be appreciated. Matt

    1996 W210 pollen filter

Anoth update - I took the car to the garage and the chap looked at it, tested it etc and found that a breather pipe was missing from it - it clips into the battery and the other end pushes into a rubber grommet in the floor. The smell is much less noticeable now!
