    R129 ASR light, OVP Relay?

Never ever jump start an R129 - ever!! Its a sure fire way to fry old silicon components in the various ECU's of these cars. The roof control module in particular seems to be the most common victim of jump starting.

    R129 parasitic battery drain

Good shout - but no, unfortunately not..

    R129 parasitic battery drain

Nope, the IRCL module N54 sends control signal to the M14/1 (vacuum pump) which I've already disconnected. It also sends signal to the flashing LEDS in the doors, and bi-directionally with the IR receiver and LED lamps in the mirror o\h console, and communicates with the ECM and the X11/4 data...

    R129 parasitic battery drain

Hi Bill, Thanks for sanity checking my work so far. Well spotted - you picked up on something that in hindsight I didn't quite describe correctly. On the one occasion where I did pull the battery out and bring it indoors to charge for 48 hours it stayed in a usable state with just starting and...

    R129 parasitic battery drain

Thanks Al. Interestingly your (presumably US) model has exactly the same fuse box legends\assignations as my UK one. Odd that my owners handbook correctly calls the boot a boot - whereas it seem both yours and my covers are labelled as 'trunk light' - sounds like an elephants headlamp ;-) I...

    R129 parasitic battery drain

!995 SL320 pre-facelift. Sorry this is a lengthy one but wish to give as much info as possible about this headache of a problem What I know: Had a new Yuasa 5000 series battery fitted last November - charges fully to ~12.9V, battery indicator green. With everything connected 'as standard'...

    Battery drain in cold weather

There will be a fuse for it. On the R129 it's fuse #10 in the engine bay fuse box. Yours will likely be different - take a look in your handbook, or look inside the fuse box, there'll prolly be a legend inside the cover. From general reading around on battery drain when parked up you shouldn't...

    Battery drain - cause?

I would guess that this is sorted now - I was thinking possibly alternator diodes and quickly scanning through all the replies I didnt spot that any one said that the easy way to test a problem in this area is to switch you DVMM to V AC range (or V DC\AC) if you have a good enough meter and then...

    Battery drain in cold weather

That's a really odd one.... My immediate thought from the title was that its just the battery dying - usual thing to happen to an old battery when the weather turns colder. Also the motor is harder to turn over the colder it gets further adding to the problem. But, as you say it stays up fine if...

R129 4/5yr old news front wings. Rust spots appearing already

Yup - and I have the six slat facelift front grille fitted on my pre-facelift, and I've also seen the earlier 7 slat grilles on later facelift models. With spare parts becoming ever harder to source I guess sometimes needs must...

R129 4/5yr old news front wings. Rust spots appearing already

Doesn't raise any concerns with me - perhaps you read something different to me, or perhaps you have your 'glass half full' hat on.... I can't see any disingenuous claims that 'making them in one piece makes them inherently superior'... He just said that they are not easy to make in one piece...

R129 4/5yr old news front wings. Rust spots appearing already

Good point - most images of UK cars I've looked at, either pre 96 or later facelift do seem to have repeaters - but not all..... US and some EU models don't seem to have them as a rule. Only thing I'm really sure of is that clear lenses were used on face lift as standard - although again a lot...

R129 4/5yr old news front wings. Rust spots appearing already

My bad - as you had quoted Penrhyns question which related specifically to the link I had posted I assumed you had some experience with that particular company... Rather than just pouring cold water on something based on anecdotal 'evidence' I've asked the seller if he has photos of fitted item...

R129 4/5yr old news front wings. Rust spots appearing already

You've bought some of these fibreglass R129 wings from the company I linked to then? Do you have some photos of what they look like when finished on the car that you could share?

    Left-foot braking

Wow - 16 pages debating this. I didnt read them all but while I was scratching my balls reading some of them, it occured to me that I have 2 hands. Should I not then be using both hands to scratch the respective testicle???

One way to never have rust problems again on your R129 wings: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mercedes-sl-r129-front-wing/274464715348 I can almost hear the purists spluttering over the coffees now ;-)

    Engine Bay Cleaning

That would be a very non trivial thing to implement - I doubt it is an available option within the parameters of the Xenforo forum software.... I find this is very quick and simple to use when I need to resize or compress images: http://webresizer.com/resizer/

    Engine Bay Cleaning

I used to know a guy with a steam cleaner who did my engine bays for me. Gunk or similar on, and steam it off. Fastest way to get a really deep clean that gets into all the nooks and crannies. Just need to exercise a bit of restraint around those hugely expensive electronic control units ;-)

Getting rid of horrid silicon from interior trim

Agree with this. These 'cockpit shine' materials don't have a high silicone content and only leave a nano particle layer on the surface. As others have said if you simply leave it you will find that it will naturally break down over a period of time. I've personally never found isopropyl to...
