OK - Just to update as there is nothing more annoying than an unresolved thread! Turned out it was the Crank Position Sensor. The boys at MB-Tech in Warrington sorted it and everything is working fine now :-)

Oh, and there are no fault lights or anything displayed on the dash. Only thing I could see under the bonnet is a wire that used to go to what looks like the air con compressor (right hand side) from an earthing point being severed, although I guess that has nothing to do with it.

It wont start at all now :( I can hear the fuel pump (I think), engine turns over but wont fire into life. I guess that doesn't narrow it down much does it...

I've just had the front discs and pads done on my CLK320 (W209) and whilst they operate fine I have noticed an squeaking noise while driving which dissappears when I brake ? Is this just a case of everything being new and needing time to bed in, or something more serious ?

I noticed today when I had the window down there was a bit of a metallic exhaust rattle when the throttle was blipped. I've already had the back cats issue and had them removed the other year (rather than replace the entire system). So I'm wondering is this likely to be a simply loose exhaust...

Oh well - at least that doesn't mean its broken :) I did read somewhere that you can enable a dyno mode that turns everything totally off (pressing the mileage reset 3 times on the temp) but I guess this isn't available on all CLKs (mine is an '02) Ben.

Quick question... When I turn off the ESP (just wanted to have a play in the snow) I notice that in certain situations it still kicks in. Does the switch totally de-activate it or only partially. Manual doesn't really say a great deal Thanks Ben.
