it may be low on transmission oil , but there is no dipstick . MB dealers use a long flexible dipstick to check and the car should go on a star diagnosis machine . the oil level should be check in park with the oil temp at 80 degrees , not easy to do with out the proper equipment

I have had a few SL like this , it would be worth checking the boot area for water leaks , this then gets into the pse pump and causes a drain and in total failure mode blows the fuse , I would edge my bets at the pse pump.
