Can you get LSD on the W220 320 CDI?

occasional limp mode and leaking injectors

You can change the fuel filter yourself first and see if it helps. Only a 15 minutes job and it's well under £20 and it's a consumable anyway.

    Brooklands GTG Sunday 30th August

Sorry guys, couldn't make it and see you guys. I had gum inflammation and was constantly waken up by the pain since Friday night. Spent Sunday early afternoon (appointment at 1) in the NHS dentist surgery in Stoke Newington :( Now on antibiotics.

    2001 S430, 82k Miles, £6k Value. Could be mine

If you have to go for the W220, go for the facelift ones from 2003 onwards. Mine has never been painted (verified by Dieselman at the last GTG at Olly's) and there are no sign of rust yet (touchwood). Moreover mine is a late-2003 car, done 131,000 miles and is street parked outdoor in...

    CL55 AMG...Knockhill......should I or shouldn't I?

If you want tuition then you can always go to people like Cadence or Don Palmer. I have tracked my S320 CDI a few times a year and here are a few pointers; 1) Never drive at race speed for more than 15 minutes and always rest for 15 minutes - the brakes start to overheat after about 10...

    Correct tyre pressures

Unless the nitrogen has been dried before it goes into the tyre, there is no different to regular air. In fact, you can put dried air into the tyre and it will be just as good.

    CLS (in)stability at speed

I would probably bet on defective tyres. Have you had them inspected? Are the pressure correct?

Poor front tyre wear on C270Cdi

I guess you could run your tyre pressure heavy load at the front, normal at the back and see how it goes. I rotate the tyres front and back every 6,000 miles because the whole set only last me about 12,000 to 13,000 with rotation and the tyre is Michelin Primacy HP MO-spec. I just cannot...

I believe the EU type approval headlamps are 4300K = slight blue when first switched on but brilliant white when it is warmed up.

    Key transplant...is it possible?

You're right about difference PCBs between the Chrome and Black key. Mercedes will very kindly code a chrome key for your car to replace a black key but it'll be about £190 I believe.

    The I.A.M

Passing the IAM test is fine in a auto but if you move on to become an observer in your IAM local group, you may be asked to demonstrate in a manual or semi-auto. In which case you probably want practices in a variety of transmission types. Also, if you rent a car abroad and it's a manual...

    The I.A.M

I have seen previous models of BMW 7-series and Jag XJR / Daimler Super with manual box. Not sure about the current generation though.

    The I.A.M

I can highly recommend it. There are only 2 or 3 HPC gatekeepers so you may have to travel to have your entry training / test done. Have you also look at ADUK? There are often informal drives arranged between IAM/RoSPA/HPC members to assess each other's driving. I like the "dawn raid" on...

    The I.A.M

You will not be count against if you do your test in an auto. However you have to drive it like a manual where situations deemed appropriate. You will still be assessed on appropriate use of gears. If it is deemed to be appropriate to leave it in D, then leave it in D. If it is more...

    The I.A.M

I thought one would have to know the speed range of each gear before you can block change. Otherwise how would you know which gear you can block change to? I think the origin of block change stem from "brakes to slow, gears to go" Another origin I believe was from the traffic cops. With...

    The I.A.M

Not recommended. You should have both hands on the wheel when you are braking hard, especially when you are close to locking up the road wheels or activating the ABS. I very rarely heel-and-toe on a manual car on public roads. If I do, I would brake harder before and after the...

    The I.A.M

Yes We were taught to use the highest possible gear to maintain cruising speed. For example, on a Mondeo petrol/diesel manual, my cruising rpm on flat road would be about 1200rpm in 4th at 30 mph. Yes we teach double-declutch but only a minority of associates use this technique as it is...

    The I.A.M

Agreed with you totally. Regarding cruising at a constant speed regardless whether you are driving at the speed limit or not, you should always cruise in the top gear. Hence my example of block change up from 2nd to 6th. If I need brisk acceleration, I often block change from 1st to 4th...
