    W163 Trip retrofit

Well mine was just attached to the dummy unit that was in its place so when I removed the overhead unit, the multi-plug was clipped into the original unit. I'm guessing that you're thinking the new unit is just the display. It's more than that, its quite a large assebly with the the rocker...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Hi CrawfMac, In the end, I took the car into PMW of Chelmsford who fitted a new lock. They also had to fit a new block to the door frame because it had distorted slightly making the door difficult to open. I have the old lock unit they took off and it's quite a poor construction with many...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Thanks Lynall, Must say, after that infamous 'clunk' there were quite a few more colourful metaphors than just the 'oh crap'. :D Had a call today from the garage (PMW Ltd in Chelmsford) and it's looking like £250 + VAT so maybe not so bad after all. From what I could see, the lock alone was...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Well I tried to attack that lock. Unfortunately, the window guide doesn't simply unclip or have drill-out pop-rivets like the front windows so it seems pretty tricky still on how to actually get to the lock. Sadly, I removed the outer handle following instructions and could see more of the lock...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Thanks again Lynall. Now all I've got to do is get a 150mm long number 4 hex key to undo the outer door lever. MawfTech

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Lynall, thanks. That thread in Benzworld (yep, I'm a member there too) is probably about as close as I can get. The rear door is slight different as it has two cables one for the button and the other for the inner door handle. It's also more difficult to get to as it's curved around the wheel...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Oops, sorry. Yes, rear left passenger door to be precise. It's erm~ 'tricky' ;) shall we say to service. Anyone got any ideas?

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Thanks Lynall, Sorry, yes I know it's a solenoid. What I was saying is that I can't see how to get to it, it's right up in the far reaches of the rear door by the lock. With no other nuts or bolts that I can see, the only means of getting to the solenoid would be to unmount the whole lock...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Thanks guys. Just one question though, how the heck do you get to it? I've removed the inner panel, peeled back the foam pad, removed the plate that's just beyond the glass guide but for the life of me, cannot reach the locking mechanism still. I'm worried if I unscrew the two torx bolts...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Thanks. I can check power at the door block (looks like a glorified scart connector). Can you tell me which pins service the solenoid? If it were to be replaced, what's the likely cost to get this done. I'm assuming it's a garage job so expect it's pretty hefty. Anyone know of any likely...

W163 facelift (2004) rear door lock fault

Hi, I've gt a W163 facelift 04 reg with a faulty rear door lock (it won't central lock). Had the inner door cover off today but can't see how to service the lock, I can't physically get to it to see if it's a faulty solenoid, dodgy wiring or something else :wallbash:. There's no mechanical...

    W163 Trip retrofit

Sadly, that's correct. The good news is that the loom is all there with all sensors. You just need the module retrofit.

    W163 Trip retrofit

Yes, I know but I actually need the module in the car in the first place to recode for miles remaining. There are about 8 different modules and I need to know which will fit the facelift W163 so I can narrow down. Unfortunately, everyone who's selling these only has the code of the module and...

    W163 Trip retrofit

Hi, I'm looking to retrofit the trip computer into my facelift '53 W163. I've found a few modules in various scappies and have all the fitting instructions. What I can't fathom is exactly which versions will retrofit into my 2003 ML270CDi. Anyone got the difinitive answer on this? I've got all...

    Mirror Clip

Yep, going to make my own too from a strip of spring steel after being told the same. I haven't worked out yet how to get the other mirror cover off to get a look at what the clip is supposed to actually look like when not bent, broken and mangled. Anyone got any good techniques on how to...

    Mirror Clip

Hi, The clip seems detachable and sits in the frame as you suggest then the cover pops over the top of the frame and the clip 'clicks' the mirror cover into place. Worst case, I'll make a new one but I'd have thought looking at way these covers pop on/off, this is quite a common problem. I'll...

    Mirror Clip

Hi, My wife managed to rip a side mirror off from our W163  on a bush and it's snapped the metal retaining clip. Luckily there's absolutely no other damage to body or mirror cover or glass . Two things; any one know if these clips are available to purchase seperately? Next obvious...
