w221 E220 cdi -05. Battery protection: Convenience functions temporarlly unavailable.

Have you got this sorted yet. I'm trying to sort something similar myself. I think jump starting a merc is a bit tricky and you may now find that some relays need replaced. Aparrently my ABS and my rev counter may have been knocked out simply by the previous owner jump starting car my car is...

    Hi Merky Bros and Sisters

True which is a shame as they are a great car. They look slow and heavy but they can't half shift. Mine is off road at the moment while I play with my 190D. The 124 does a silly thing when it has been left not started for a while. It will start and run for about 15 mins, and then run lumpy...

Testing a baby heater for UVO.

Testing a baby bottle heater for UVO. Those of you running on vegi oil and who are using a baby bottle heater round your fuel filter as a pre-heater, may be interested in this little experiment I did this morning. I attached 2 temperature sensors, one (A) at the top of the filter, the other...

    Hi Merky Bros and Sisters

I've been on the forum a few times but I have not yet said hello, and I've been told that is bad etiquette. So, Hi all, or as we say here in Northern Ireland "Whataboutye". I've 2 Mercs, a super 124 estate, and recently, I bought a 190D auto to try out the UVO - and that has been going really...

What is this leaking on my 190D?

Hi Today my 190 sprung a leak! After some investigation I discovered that this creamy coloured plastic bit is the culprit. I assume it is part of the heating plumbing, as it is high up above the engine just behind the engine bay bulkhead. Could someone tell me what it is as I imagine I will...

    Removing vacuum line connections

As previously posted my gear changes on the 190D tend to be a bit thumpy at low revs, so I am going to check out the vacuum lines. What's the best way of removing them, heat them up with warm water and just pull them off? Is there a risk of damaging them? Also, there are 2 down on the engine...

Over-riding auto box to improve MPG

I noticed when driving my W124 that when it changes up, the economy meter goes up also, particularly so when going up hill where the economy meter will redline as the car plods up in top gear. So, I now overide the auto on hills to save fuel. Now, most advice is to change early, government...

    Dash lights on 190D

Similar but not the same. I have the American E Class Bible, and Haynes for the W124. Some stuff checks out and some doesn't. Anyway, I've just bought one on eBay so that should keep me right.

190D Auto with sticky gear change

Well, the oil change went well. Notice that the gear change only seems to be a problem changing up with revs below 2500, so, that vacuum pipe is looking a bit more suspect! Where exactly is it? With revs on the clock, the gear change is really quite smooth the way it should be.

What is ZHM and is there a cheap alternative?

Jay and Dieselman Tried disconnecting the return pipe, topping up the reservoir with clean oil, and running the engine, but it didn't pump out. Me and the misses sat on the boot to give it something to do, but no joy. Tried covering the reservoir opening with my hand in case it only worked as...

    Dash lights on 190D

Thanks Stats007 for your contribution, however, as the car is new to me and 20 years old, I don't have any manual to go on! Secondly, I did several searches but couldn't find what I was looking for. As a new member, I am still learning where to look for stuff. That said, the forum is...

    Dash lights on 190D

Thanks again jaymanek, and all, I twiddled the knob and hey presto, we've got lights :D.

What is ZHM and is there a cheap alternative?

Thanks again jaymanek. I called them and its £3.50 + VAT per litre bottle, so I've booked 3 to allow me to do an oil change. So, not only is it the cheapest, but they know what it is when you ask for it, and they have it in stock. Think I've just found a new supplier! Its hard to believe...

Thanks, I'm in work at the moment, I'll try that when I get home.

    Dash lights on 190D

Right, it doesn't work to reset the trip mileage, I wonder does therein lie the problem! Also, there is a strange little display only about 2 inches long which I haven't quite figured out yet!

    Dash lights on 190D

What dimming knob! My first car was a 1968 Mini and it had a dimming knob for "Continental Travelling"! I'll have a look - whereabouts might I find it?

    Dash lights on 190D

I have a recently bought 190D which has no illumination on the dash, or gear selector when the headlights are switched on. I have checked all the fuses that I think it might be, and they seem fine. Anyone any advice for systematically tracing the fault, or history of trouble in this area?

What is ZHM and is there a cheap alternative?

Tracked down a part ref for GSF. So, I called them and quoted M98001, and they have one 1 litre bottle for £4.50 plus VAT which I have reserved. Given its apparent scarcity, I'd really like to get one of these 5L bottles for £10- £20.

190D Auto with sticky gear change

Thanks guys for the advice. I will change the fluid on Saturday and let you know how it goes. I priced a filter and gasket for the job - MB £34.00, GSF £11.00, - bit of a difference!
