    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

Okay guys, going to revive this thread a little with a few more Q's...... 1. Driver's door (230CE) - when closing the door, the glass does not go under the seal. Is this just a case of replacing the seal (maybe it's gone hard ?) or is it due to something else ? 2. Under normal driving...

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

I wouldn't quite say I'm sorted ! It's "only" €1300 to tax a car with an engine size between 2900cc and 3000cc. My MX5 which is 1830cc falls between the 1.8-1900cc tax band. I wonder if I could get a 300CE and tell them it's an E220 coupé ?!?!

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

According to Mercedes literature, the 16v 220 motor is more economical than the 230CE. But I'm sure somebody from on here can confirm if this is true.

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

Cars that are 30 years old or over as classed as vintage/veteran. So the road tax on these vehicles is only €48 per year ! They are also MoT (NCT) exempt.

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

Haha ! Yeah, I can do a bit of spannering. General maintenance I tend to do myself but as for the heavier work I let garages do that for me because I don't have a lift etc. Regarding the headrests, they won't stay up. Probably the vacuum issue that I have read about on here ?

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

I'm afraid not old chap. It's €1500 for 12 months road tax for anything over 3000cc !! Age is irrelevant under that system. However, since Jan '09 a newer system has come into play. But that is only for new cars. The pre '09 tax rates are crippling for bigger engined cars. My 1.8 Mazda MX5...

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

Exactly ! :thumb: I've always loved these cars and it's "small car" money to buy. However, I am just weary of buying something was will bleed the piggy bank dry ! So I decided get the opinions of you experts on here.

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

That's what I meant to say originally. When the button is pressed, the headrests do not fall flat. I explained that part badly in the opening post !

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

Thanks for the info guys. I would absolutely love a 300CE ! But as I'm living in Ireland, financially, it's not an option. Road tax over here is very very expensive (extortion) and it's €1300 for 12 month's road tax to run a 3 litre car. So given that, a 300CE is ruled out for me. The road tax...

    W124 CE...worthwhile ?

Hi guys, Have been on the site for a while purely to browse and read up on Merc's but have never had the pleasure of owning a Mercedes previously and am considering a C124 230CE at the moment. I was toying with the idea of a 2nd car to use up to late spring when I'll be using a convertible...

    R129 V12 gearbox ?

Hi All, I'm hoping somebody from on here can help me ! A friend of mine has a '93 R129 SL600 V12. He needs a replacement gearbox, preferable used. Can anyone point me to a breakers or somebody that might have one for sale ? Apologies if this is in the wrong section (should I have posted this...

    CLK320 vs 320CE (W124)

Hi All, I'm new to this forum (just signed up). I thought I'd ask in this post as I have a similar query to the original poster. I'm looking for a second car and I'm seriously considering a W124 as they are a car that I've always admired. As I live in Ireland and as road tax here is complete...
