    W201 smiles

Borrowed an H reg W201 with 306k miles on the clock from Merx, whilst they serviced my E class (good job as always); It was a bit tatty but what a lovely drive and probably the highest mileage car I've ever driven. Apparently still on the original engine & gearbox. I guess seriously low budget...

    Winter Is Coming....

Never had the problem, and I'm in Buxton (yes, it's been known to snow in June, I'm told). I find a rafia beach mat stretched across the windscreen works a treat (with the ends easily trapped in shut doors)! Might work along the 'wacky windows' too? Getting a rwd car up the hill is a different...

    I am a wanted man

You evil, evil man. You should be :ban:ned! Bad luck mate. If you were ten or twenty over then.. well it was a risk you took & lost.... but 5mph? It's not like you were practicing handbrake turns outside a school....

    Great service from DVLA

I've a few plate related things to do with the DVLA (the one on my wife's car needs to go on retention; her plate which is on retention needs to go onto her car). (I have a plate to sell - would suit a geordie bingo caller - any offers?) Not looking forwards to it! However..... I've needed to...

Wanted -W210 nearside foglight lens y2000, post facelift.

Cheers! Could be. Proser just pmed me to say the lenses are only a few quid from a dealer, so I'll give them a bell in the morning first.

    Which Bulbs are best?

Thanks! Ordered a pair tonight :) Shame not to try them at that price.

How do you know if they've actually done the service?

Probably unfair to many main dealers but I'm afraid I don't trust them as far as I could throw them. I've had far to many moments of disbelief with them over the years (main dealers for a variety of marques). VW and MGRover dealers (yes I had a 75 & it was a nice car) without fail have reported...

    A new watch

Nice! I've always been a sucker for a nice watch, mechanical not quartz obviously! Current watches - Gold Omega Deville Chronometer(wedding present), (retro) Rado, Seiko Orange Monster (huge & bombproof divers watch). Hopefully a Patek Phillipe in the future!

    Which Bulbs are best?

ever so slightly off topic... bulb warning message came on last night (b*ll*x I thought). On my last car (Jag X-Type) changing a headlight bulb required the dexterity of a...... well dextrous thing... & tiny, tiny fingers & hands (which I don't have) plus removal of the battery, to make space...

    National MBClub Event

You are so wrong, it's pretty central for access to the whole UK. Part of the reason I chose to settle here. I travel UK wide with work but prefer to have a home surrounded by stunning countryside rather than stuck in a town or city. Admittedly it's a bit chilly & grey today......!!

This has my vote! Not only is the Peak District beautiful but I live in Buxton...:)

    possible Wolverhampton GTG 24th Oct?

Possibly...... Hard to commit with little'uns! :dk: I'm feeling quite proud of the car since I've had the wheel arches 'de-bubbled'! :D I'd like to see Proser's wagon again, after all the work he's been putting into it.

Does the W168 A-Class have a lights on buzzer?

My wife's 2004 A160CDI Avantgarde has it, think it's identical to my E class. However it doesn't stop her turning the switch past the 'off position' and leaving parking lights on! But I can't really complain, I had an old Polo as my first car (£100 bargain - a long long time ago :( ) and used...

    Champiro tyres

If it were me, I'd get as much mileage out of them as possible, seeing as they're new. If I had problems or reservations about them after running them a while I'd then think about swapping them.

    Champiro tyres

Cheapo tyres - I think Quickfit sell them. I've no experience of them though... Some cheap tyres are pretty good (eg Gislaved), others aren't....

    Best Anti-Virus Software

+1 Likewise. Used it for years on several home machines, work machines & stick on for the friends & family that ask my advice & use me as free tech support! I really don't like Norton, Mcaffee etc. Always the first thing I remove if preinstalled.

The results of 2 days cleaning

Stunning job Mark! The car looked good when I saw it the other week, better still now! Mine's looking good now with the wheel arches done (& thank god the courtesy 'roller skate' has gone!). Just need to find time to apply similar elbow grease.....
