Low mileage black on black CLK 430 'AMG'

Hi all, Sadly I don't find much time to drive my merc any more so the time has come to offer her up for sale. As anyone who owns one will tell you, these are extremely quick cars. On a recent trip to the UK she found the 150mph limiter with amazing ease! Handles like it's on rails with the...

Balls, just realised I forgot to take photos, weather is awful over here at the mo. Really sorry, I'll go outside to read the tyres and take some pics as soon as it stops tipping it down! James

Wanted: 17" SLK / CLK AMG Alloys x4 with Tyres

Hiya, I've got the original CLK AMG 17's on mine, they're in very good condition all round and I'm not aware of them having been refurbished. Tyres are good all round, fronts are fine but don't have masses of tread, rears were replaced mid last year when I bought the car. I'm considering...

I broke my comand, please help!

Ahhhh, that's a good plan, shame I've literally just taken it back out, fekking thing! I'll pop it back in and try that before dismantling again! I did try holding the button before but probably only for about 3 or 5 seconds before shouting at it a lot!! Gold star for you if it works!! :D James

    removing w208 comand without tools?

Yeah, on a CLK the mechanism locks into those two little holes when you slide the tool in, then as you pull out they slide the mechanism up retracting the retainers either side. On a CLK I don't believe the curve actually does anything, I think the tool is supposed to be universal so it works...

I broke my comand, please help!

Ah, yeah sorry it's a W208 with comand 2.0, really must update my profile now! Cheers, James

I broke my comand, please help!

Well it's not too bad, I took it apart to clean the lens and roller. Whilst I was putting it back together the CD mechanism pinged closed as though there was a CD in it. I managed to get it to stay back up again after investigating the mechanism, and made sure the little white posts in front of...

My C43 new black roof lining and new number plate pics

Those plates are legal over here in Guernsey! Most of our plates are black and silver front and rear (numbers only too), but not pressed ones like that. I'll post up a pic of my clk when I get a chance, looks lovely with proper black and silvers on with bike numbers! James

    removing w208 comand without tools?

Just for the sake of reference, you definately do need the holes with a CLK, that's the part which moves the catch and allows you to remove it. I know there's another very similar set of keys for another benz which doesn't have/need the holes. Cheers, James

    removing w208 comand without tools?

Well that was easy, took it to the friendly hi-fi shop and they lent me the keys. Man it's easy with the keys, ordered a set while I was there. Unit is now out by 10mm waiting for me to sort the read issues on saturday :thumb: Thanks for the help and suggestions James

    removing w208 comand without tools?

No Halfords over here, or much else for that matter! :( Wow! Your MB dealer must be a lot better than mine! Jacksons over here charge £150 p/h, would make me join the waiting list and then WOULD charge me for an hour to take it out!! That said, I will take it to my friendly car hi-fi shop...

    removing w208 comand without tools?

Tried giving it a good tug from the back and it wasn't shifting. I cut off two little strips of credit card and slid them in the slots, but this didn't work, due to the lack of those little holes I guess. From looking at a pic of the side of the comand unit, I didn't realise the catch mechanism...

    removing w208 comand without tools?

Thanks, but he doesn't mention anything about removing the comand unit without the MB tools which is my issue. I had a read through that thread and several others before posting... Thanks, James

    removing w208 comand without tools?

Hi all, Is there a 'heath robinson' way to remove the comand head unit from my W208 CLK without the merc tools? I know this sounds ridiculous with them only being 60p or something, but I'm really impatient and wouldn't be able to get a set over here for a week or so by which time I'll have...

    CLK430 to 55 with gearbox?

Wow, I've really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons here eh! I'm very aware that low mileage examples are getting pretty rare. Given that I only do a handful of miles a year, mine should stay that way for some time, most 10yr old cars over here only have about 30k miles on. I guess a call to...

    CLK430 to 55 with gearbox?

This is more like it. So I'm right in thinking that Olly could put any Renntec map on my ECU, therefore he could re-program to a 55 map just as easily as altering a 430 map? Problem solved surely? Only remaining thing would be the TCU map, which no doubt Olly can alter while he's at it...

    CLK430 to 55 with gearbox?

Yeah I plan to have a chat with him, need to order the bits for my gearbox oil change anyhoo. I'm still a bit confused about the whole non adaptive ecu issue, it must have some flexibility or it wouldn't have lambda sensors surely? Even if it can't get that close, an aftermarket product...

    CLK430 to 55 with gearbox?

Oh yeah, I don't doubt it's pretty quick, took it out for a good run yesterday as it happens! It's more that I have this thing about knowing there's a faster option and not wanting second best! I was actually having a nose through other 4 door options from the merc shed and I was really suprised...

    CLK430 to 55 with gearbox?

Yeah, see this is the issue. I'm not sure I can justify spending 10k outright on even a 55 when I'm supposed to be saving for other things! It's easier to work on what I've got bit by bit. I guess to be fair it wouldn't have to be black on black, though it would be nice, but I don't want a dog...
