Cheers guys... Got to the root of the problem and it wasn't the tyres after all. The left control arm bushings and steering damper were weak causing vibration at certain speeds. At least that was what the garage said. Parts on order so will know soon enough.

That would explain it... Got some fuel cleaner in there at the moment. If that doesn't shift the problem, may just leave it as I can avoid the problem by not overfilling the tank (up to the cut off point at the pump). Very strange phenomenon.

Yes, will try that too... Worth exhausting all possibilities before forking out on a new set of rubber! Car is going in for a replacement washer motor anyway so will get them to look into the problem (another excuse to charge me another 100 quid or so!)

Just leave mine permanently in sport mode... I think the overall result is that there is a lag and we all have different approaches to work with it!! Thanks for the tips ;-) Sometimes I do miss a manual gearbox... Just a shame that 80% of the time we sit in traffic!!!

Good point ;-) Was on a 40 mile stretch of open road with no speed cameras (there still are a couple in Dubai)... My eyes were glued to the road and not the fuel gauge!

It was standing for a long time before I bought it and the vibrations at speed are definitely from the wheels... Had the car serviced recently and they found nothing else apart from changing the discs and pads (and the vibration was there from before). May take it back to be looked at again...

That makes sense... Thanks for that. Was thinking that some debris from the bottom of the tank could have accounted for the running problems that lasted a short time afterwards. Hopefully no real harm done.
