have you checked the wire connection on the autobox - this connection is known to leak and the fluid can travel over the wires into the loom/ecu - there's an easy check you can do with the car on a ramp - check out the Mercedes Source u tube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/Mercedessource

i've used Bob Bob's Bodyshop in Northampton NN2 6EE for my BMW E90 and he did a really exellent job - excellent prices

breaker bar or piece of pipe on the ratchet handle - maybe use a 1/2 inch ratchet when trying that though

had knocking on a b6 passat - replaced both drop links and it was fine afterwards - super cheap and easy enough to do (DIY) if you have a jack and socket socket set. I needed a blow torch to ease the ball joint off each side and no knocking - drop links were less than a tenner for the pair :)

Autobarn (Kettering road I think) - are close to where i live - did you have any issues with the gearbox after the oil change? Have you had work done by them since? Would you still recommend these guys? thanks

thanks for the reply :) wow, how often do you service the engine (oil change) do you mind letting me know how much the gearbox refurb cost was? Has your gearbox had regular fluid changes?

Thanks for the quick reply, i'm suspecting the ATF and filter change at MB will just be drop the pan job rather than the full works - i was thinking of going to MB for the initial fluid change just incase there are issues afterward it'll be easier to get them to look into it than a specialist -...
