Scary! CLK W208 steering itself at low speed

Old but not perished I think. Rear trailing arm bushes refresh was recommended however I think. Nothing is visually bent or twisted under the car. I went to Wheels in Motion (Black Boots), Chesham.

Scary! CLK W208 steering itself at low speed

Well, long story short... a lot of the camber and caster is way out of spec tolerances. The chap said they can’t adjust it out so I’d need to fit new components such as lower control arms ...and this isn’t guaranteed to fix it. So my choices are: 1. Spend a small fortune on a car I’ve already...

Mercedes w208 clk 430 coupe rear differential

Breaker i just saw while looking for something for myself on ebay: 99 Mercedes Clk430 W208 4.3 V6 Petrol - Rear Bumper + Parking sensors - Green | eBay Perhaps see if they have a diff for you

Mercedes w208 clk 430 coupe rear differential

Might sound nuts but try merc themselves. I priced up an OEM exhaust and was really pleasantly surprised. Perhaps they want to get rid of older stock? They might also be able to confirm the suspicion that the 320 diff will fit. Also set up an alert on ebay for anything with ‘breaking’ and...

Mercedes w208 clk 430 coupe rear differential

They are different part numbers. 210350291480 for the 320 and 2083500614 for the 430. However, the E430 and E320 both used the same diff as the clk320. No idea why the clk430 had its own diff.....perhaps a different final drive gearing?

Scary! CLK W208 steering itself at low speed

Booked in. :) Thanks all for the advice. Hopefully it just needs an adjustment and I don’t have a big fat bill coming my way. I bought the car for 1500 last summer and I’ve already had to shell out 2k on repairs. This should be the last of it though, then I think I may sell. Not really bonded...

Scary! CLK W208 steering itself at low speed

My new-to-me 2001 CLK430 is exhibiting some strange steering characteristics. When turning the wheel at low speeds with more than 75% of full lock, the car will continue steering all the way to full lock. When pulling out of a T-junction it can be downright dangerous because the car ‘wants’ to...

DVLA unwilling to tax my car...any advice?

That's just what these people love to listen to.... logic and sound reasoning...

DVLA unwilling to tax my car...any advice?

Except he'd get the £400 tax disc. I don't trust him to send it on rather than cash it in! I would need to do it in person at the post office or a local DVLA office in order to obtain the tax disc.

DVLA unwilling to tax my car...any advice?

We have progress. The chap I bought the car from has been honest and said he's just realised he forgot to send the V5 and has finally done so this morning. I have asked if he can send me the tax reminder in the mean time, on the assumption the post office won't care if the names and...

Of course I fully get that point now.... Won't ever make the same mistake.

DVLA unwilling to tax my car...any advice?

Cheers mate.... really valuable experience to be able to call on. It's replies like this which is why I find myself on here this evening rather than a bimmer forum.

DVLA unwilling to tax my car...any advice?

To paraphrase two separate DVLA guys "in my experience, usually six weeks, as we need to contact the last owner and undertake numerous security checks". If lucky, I can borrow my long-suffering mum's car for a day here and there; and work from home on some days. So not hugely worried. More...

DVLA unwilling to tax my car...any advice?

Hi all, About six weeks ago I 'went to the Dark Side' and swapped my CLK for a BMW. It is absolutely fantastic. When I bought the car I filled in all the necessary stuff on the V5 and took away the V5/C new keeper supplement. After waiting 4 weeks and after not receiving a new V5, I confirmed...

Another 'am I mad?' thread - I'd like to think I've started a craze. :bannana:

    Thinking 'M3 CSL'....am I mad?

Thanks for all the comments guys. It seems the overall consensus has moved from 'house' to 'M3', and moreover 'M3 CSL'... A couple of you asked how much I'd use it and what for. My daily commute is a 21 mile round trip. With personal use and random work jollies to the North I tend to...

    Thinking 'M3 CSL'....am I mad?

Really? I thought their Rover engines were notoriously unreliable? This aside, I'm more of a "POWERRRRRRR!" type of guy than a looking for a nimble lightweight car.

    Thinking 'M3 CSL'....am I mad?

This appeals but apparently 2nd hand prices are silly for the airbox and exhaust; whilst BMW won't sell you one without a CSL V5 :wallbash: I sat in stop-start traffic for a while this morning in my comfortable CLK and was thinking to myself how annoying the crap hifi and racing seats on the...
