    Any experience of SMART ForFour?

I've had a 1.1 4-4 as a courtesy car a couple of times, which is ok, just so slow. Had a 1.3 or 1.5 colt as a courtesy car for a couple of weeks, it was awful. Didn't handle at all, no power, no traction, and the clutch overheated on me. However, my day to day car is a roadster and I love...

    Seen the new E Class?

Looks a little like the ford isos concept to me.

Driving test every 5 years - your thoughts??

The training and testing infrastructure can't cope with frequent retests, its hugely overstretched as it is. We would need about 5 times as many test centres, examiners, instructors. With legislation that will no doubt come in in the future a portion of the training will have to be done on...

And the fastest accelerating street-legal car in the world is ...

Legal to have it fitted, just not to use it.

    Used E-class diesel - which one ?

Honest john's take on test driving the latest mondeo estate was that anyone would be stupid to pay 30k+ for a 2 year old E class estate when they could get a top spec mondeo for 10k or less. 6 year anti corrosion warranty too. Same pathetic clause about corrosion only counting as corrosion...

    The New Audi TT

Oh its just awful. Looks like another nasty little hatchback, with a distinctly cheap koreanesque front end.

    190e 2.6 buyers guide

I had one. Head gasket needed doing because was pissing oil out the side of the gasket, to the extent that the oil light came on on the motorway once. Electric window motors fail. The clips that held the handbrake shoes onto the backing plate were getting fouled by the wheelnuts on...

    Pinking?

Worth checking the plugs too, if the gap has opened up it may slightly affect the timing slightly. If it was a 2 stroke bike I'd be fitting a colder plug - higher number is colder, so if it runs an 8 now I'd go up to a 9. Could try that.

    C200 oily water

On my old 190E the radiator cooled the water and the ATF, so I assume it was possible for the barrier between the two to break. Not sure if this would make the water get mayonnaise on it, but its something to check.

    £2,100 Third Party on 1.1 Golf !!!

He got ripped off. My first car was 1995 1.6 escort, 2 years ago when I was 18. Insurance was £900 tpft in my name with no additional drivers. No NCB.

So today I bought a new car...

(Touch wood) So far its behaved itself impeccably, 8000 miles and no problems. Getting rather attached to it.

You could have returned to roller skate ownership. You know it makes sense.

190 Coswoth on Discovery Real Time

I want one. Seriously tempted to get either a 2.3-16 or a 2.5-16 for my next car, I miss my old 2.6.

    Back from the big drive!

I did that run about a month ago in the smart roadster. Skye is fantastic, the total lack of speed camera or traffic police very welcome. I went with a couple of friends and walkie talkie so we could do the Quirang properly - with a spotter at the top telling me when it was clear to drive up...

Can the four speed box handle the torque output of the 3.8?

    v6 vs straight 6

Using basic theory from bike engines and expanding it: A straight 6 is a balanced engine. One cylinder fires every 120 degress, 120*6=720. Straightforward and balanced, and all of the pistons are doing the same movement reciprocated by another piston. As for V engines, a 90 degree vee...

    Wish me luck!

Ah you're one of those guys? Do you know Mr. C? The guy who rode his ZX12R through one of the new timing markers at Elvington at above 160 mph a few weeks ago. For reference, these timing markers are roughly 10 foot sqaure wooden boards with a metal frame. He went through one. Managed...

    The R Class Launch today

Its a hearse. Nice big load room for a coffin, but I'd only be seen dead in one.
