Yes, I took it for a 5 mile run. It does not have full power and idles very rough.

Thanks for your advice, but that didn't clear the error messages. I have also followed a separate link to reset the ECU, but that didn't work either. I suppose at least it now runs, which is better than where I started. Time to bite the bullet and take it to a dealer ....:wallbash:

Returned to it this morning, reconnected, and it started 1st time. Now have ABS, BAS and ESP error messages, radio does not come on and engine running on about half the power. Brilliant. That's the last time I touch ANYTHING on this car.

I replaced the battery in my 2000 S500 today, but accidentally disconnected the negative terminal after about 20 seconds. When I connect the battery now, the wipers go on, lights come on (neither of which I can switch off) and I cannot start the car - in fact I can't do anything, as nothing...
