    Least impressive selling point!

I bought such a 300se. I test drove on his local golf course which was the only place it was taken to since his wife took on a troublesome bmw 330ci. After agreeing to buy and before picking up he had the local dealer fit a new exhaust and replace the speedo (faulty odometer) at company expense...

Booked to go to Egypt oooops!

If you are set on Cuba and I don't see why not, check your holiday insurance if you have an annual policy. I had the renewal with Direct Travel in my hand yesterday and noticed for the first time that it provided no cover for visiting and passing through Afghanistan, CUBA, Liberia and Sudan. I...

The History of British Police Cars.

Unmarked MGB GT V8 was used around Banbury in my youth to persuade hapless motorists in front to speed up to prevent tailgating, according to the local rag's court reports. The locals all recognised it immediately but visitors were caught out. Well known photo also around of MGAs in police...

    Shock, horror TG used actors!!

I only watched this because it was filmed around Stratford and Bidford upon Avon for the restaurant scene. Most of the diners were restaurant staff according to the report in the local rag two weeks ago. Like most of the TG set pieces it was cringeworthy and ultimately boring.

    300e Sportline - or not??

What does the team think? My sportline knowledge is limited to what I have gleaned from the 190e thread so is this one or not? Here

    Car transporter trailer kerb weights

Correct. At least one trailer builder will supply two plates for a 750 kg trailer so that it meets UK regs and a 500 kg plate for anyone moving to France so the trailer dips under the MOT-equivalent trailer test requirement.

    Car transporter trailer kerb weights

They can't but it doesn't prevent them from impounding your trailer and calling a lowloader at your cost to take it away while the matter is resolved. This type of thing is more often than not dreamed up by a senior officer anxious to increase the tally of stops and reports. There was a similar...

    Car transporter trailer kerb weights

Something to be aware of is that some police forces have their own interpretation of the law. When I approached a Leicester trailer dealer about buying a car transporter, he warned me that I could not tow a 650kg unladen trailer home behind a small car rated for 1300kg because the trailer...

    citroen hydractive

As I recall it the 2CV Sidewinder was indeed a conversion carried out by placing a GS engine in an Ami 8 chassis topped by a 2CV bodyshell. It was offered briefly by a converter in Sheffield or some such northern place. There was a short-lived factory version of the Ami with a 1015 cc engine but...

Nothing to add on the superb suspension other than to mention the party trick performed with my bx 4x4 estate when raising the car to position 3 for floods and 2 for straddling snow. Now if a bx gti 4x4 came along...

Opinions please £8K for an average 126

He's had it a year and done 24,000 miles so that is a lot of daily driving. Take away the lpg kit, which spoils the originality for me, and realistically it should be halved in price if chrome and bodywork are genuinely superb.

    Complications of heart surgery.

A colleague of my wife followed the actor Richard Griffiths a day or two later through the coronary unit at University Hospital, Coventry although he knew nothing of him until after his own bypass and the news came out. When we visited him we were very impressed by the cleanliness of the ward...

    Supportive chairs (office chairs perhaps).

I couldn't find any supplier in the west midlands with much good knowledge about ergonomics and office chairs so ended up in Yorkshire (Lundia) and London (Back2). If you want to improve posture persuade him onto a Hag Capisco saddle chair but broadly Hag or Okamura are good high-end choices and...

    The Sunday Times

As these were on a 100% one year write-down it seemed to make a kind of eco-friendly business sense but I just couldn't find any evidence they would climb the 1 in 3.5 hills round here at a decent pace. Then on last day of hols in Funchal, which has some horrendous hills, I saw a couple of hire...

    F111 Lands - Wheels up.

Very neat. Some of the Oxfordshire forum members may remember an F-111 that crashlanded gently near Stoke Lyne back in the 1970s on the approach to RAF Upper Heyford and remained largely intact in like fashion. Coincidentally, on buying my first copy of the Oxford Times for years the other...

"Not many in this colour Combination" .....

It's a fine line between tasteful and kitsch but I like this interior. The steering wheel is taking it to the brink and a set of those italicised Carat Duchatelet dials would push it over for me.

I lived in Chesham for 9 years - not sure I knew of a Lotus factory there? Thanks for pointing that out. Should have typed Cheshunt. :fail

    Fav car to date

Lotus Elan S1 1600 bought from its original owner of 23 years who had it built from a kit by Lotus racing mechanics operating in their spare time in a lockup near the Chesham factory. Chassis 257 was the best handling and drifting car I've had but had never been garaged. Sold for restoration but...

    Local tradesman web searches

Excluding labour costs (unspecified food and drink) and the skirting board included in the oak costs quoted above our flooring costs came to £64 per sq m if that makes you feel better. As you say, adhesive was £70-80 a tin and the delivery cost for the wood was £160. Fortunately, a friend a mile...
