I like the superior finish of the door gaps in the Trabant :D I bet you could get that MX5 back on the road no problems... They are amazingly good for a jap car :)

You need to check _under_ the carpets, as water can collect in the passenger foot well. If you feel technical you could also have a go at removing the door sill cover and checking the carpeting along the seat and for rust patched starting to grow by the back seat. R129s do leak they just hide it...
