    R230 owners experiences / advice

Hi, I'm looking into the idea of buying an R230 and thought I would post on here for a little advice and owners experiences if possible. I've owned my W126 for quite a few years and fancy adding something a little sporty to the fleet. I've considered a Porsche 996 as prices for those seem quite...

W116 280SE fires but then dies instantly

I'm having a problem with the 1977 280SE I'm trying to get running. I've now refurbished the fuel tank and got a spark... finally! So I tried to fire it up today (the car has been sat in the garage since the mid 90s), it sort of fires up very briefly but then dies immediately. And I also hear a...

Body shop in Edinburgh? - need recommendations

Thanks Derek. I know where that is roughly. I used to drive that road every day back in my Uni days. I'll give them a shout. How are your W126s running? Going strong I hope! Do they both get much use?

Body shop in Edinburgh? - need recommendations

Hi, I am looking for a good bodyshop in or around Edinburgh or the Scottish Borders. I need some rust repairs and a new wing (maybe two). If anyone can recommend a good place with reasonable prices, that would be great. Thanks Norman

    M103 Head gasket question

Thanks folks. I had thought about giving it a go myself. Probably just more time consuming than difficult but I'm not sure I would ever feel quite comfortable with it. Best to get the garage to have a look. What about timing chain tensioners?

    New wheel nuts?

Thanks. This is going to be a daft question, but do you pull them off when you want to undo the wheel nuts, or how does it work?

    M103 Head gasket question

I notice oil seems to be coming out from the head gasket on my 300SE W126 so I'm wondering if I should have it done. Any idea how many labour hours this might be at a garage? Also, while it's off, should I have any other stuff done? Mine is a 1988 with just over 100k on the clock.

    New wheel nuts?

My wheel nut are looking a bit shabby on my W126 alloys. Can anyone recommend a place I could buy news ones or does it have to be MB directly? Or might wheel nut covers be an idea worth considering? Thanks

    W126 - front wings

Hi, the wings on my W126 are getting quite rust now and I think I need to replace them. I gather a lot of the aftermarket parts don't tend to fit very well, is that correct? I'm I going to have to buy wings from the MB dealer or are there any other options? Thanks Norm

    'best' of top gear

I do watch it as well, and do still enjoy it overall. The worst bit this series was that snow plow bit. Clarkson adds a flame thrower and sets some guy on fire, then they get stuck, etc, etc. May accidentally drives over a car under a pile of snow. Just rubbish. I would also like some reviews...

    Oil pressure, W126 300SE

Thanks grober, it's been less than 5k since my last oil+filter change, but it was a while ago, so I think I'll do one this week. Can't hurt!

    Oil pressure, W126 300SE

Hi, I've noticed recently that the oil pressure in my W126 300SE sits and just under the 3 line, but as it gets warmer, after about 15 minutes of driving it reached the full 3 line. Is this a problem? At idle it's at about 1.5. I use castrol 10W40 and an MB filter. Thanks

    91 300se revving high

You have to take off the air filter housing. 3 or 4 nuts, 10mm. One is located vertically on the right. You don't actually have to take the lid of it off (i.e. the bit held on with the clips), you just take the whole housing off. Also have to pull off the air pipes to get it off. Then you will...

    W126 300se Aerial 1991

I bought a Hirschmann aerial from euro car parts last year as mine died. Fit perfectly fine. As for the chrome bit, best to go to a breaker for that, mercman maybe or Rob Parker and three pointed parts

    91 300se revving high

Have you tried the idle control valve? Could just need a clean, best to use carb cleaner on it. Or you could just buy a second hand one and try it out. Fairly cheap and easy to fit.
