    Hamilton to join MB F1

That cuts both ways though, Mercedes have only won two construction championships as an engine supplier. Once with McLaren in '98 and with Brawn in '09. On neither occasion have they really seemed capable of building on that success.

W124 E220 Estate tidy up. Will I ever learn?

There are guides in the kit to centre it, but drilling squarely down the stud is down to a steady hand and a reasonable eye.

W124 E220 Estate tidy up. Will I ever learn?

I asked a guy who works a lot on the Citroen system and he told me the restrictor is there because if the car is loaded and it hits a big pothole the suspension will crash to the ground if the restrictor isn't there. I've no idea whether or not that is true, I don't have that much experience...

W124 E220 Estate tidy up. Will I ever learn?

It passed its MOT! I forgot it was due and due to piss poor communication between John and I it ran out. (Incidentally confirming my sister's opinion that we need close supervision:p) It therefore got driven to the MOT station without checking anything on it at all and it passed. I really...

W124 E220 Estate tidy up. Will I ever learn?

It sits outside in all weathers, works like it's supposed to and generally behaves itself. No news is good news!

is w124 e220 any good for towing trailor

Mercedes rated them at 1900kg with a manual box and 2100 with an automatic. I'm not convinced I'd want to tow over 2 tonnes through the Alps with a 220 though.

    Opinions: W124 E320 conversion from an E220

I'm not entirely convinced a 320 is actually a nicer car than a 220. The 320 is irritatingly thirsty, not especially powerful and front heavy. Don't get me wrong, I understand why people like them, but both a 220 and a 320 is a compromise; in many ways I prefer the compromise the smaller 4 pot...

    W124 rusty wings

It's a bolt on, there are screws hidden inder the plastic trim over the sill/wing joint, an awkward one on the door shut, along the top of the wing and hidden by the indicator

Slow day in a little Greek Village

Now one of the people involved decides to use the services of a bank to pay their bill. The bank takes a commission and the manager gets a bonus for generating new business. The money doesn't pass back into the local economy. All the hotelier gets back is 75 Euros and he has a financial crisis...

W124 crash damage - advice please.

It looks to me like the LH front corner is down; the top of the wing is significantly lower than the RH wing. You can also see the wing bulging out. Before buying a load of panels I'd have a really good look at the inner wings and chassis legs. If the corner is down you can't just replace the...

What's the cheapest car you've bought?

I bought a LHD W116 280S from a garage for £150. It was a really basic spec car for an S class; finished in non metallic baby poo brown, it had a manual box, wind up windows, steel wheels and vinyl seats. I then found up that it was up for sale because they'd failed to fix it. It hiccuped, it...

Does it get any worse than this?

I'm only buying it once Paris Hilton's pink Bentley comes up for sale, then I can have a matched pair outside the house.

    W124 cladding clips

They don't look right at all for a late car. The top and bottom clips are different. The bottom one has a prong, the top one has a metal arm. The dealer won't be making a 50p sale when you buy all new clips. The front door cladding is held by 30 odd clips and they're in the region of £1...

Nikon D90 camera - Anyone own one

I don't have a D5100, but it is just out and progress is so fast that it pays to get the newest version. I have a D70S and a D300.

Why a D90? The D5100 is newer, cheaper and less bulky.

    Leatherman or SOG

I carry a Leatherman Flair. It has the requisite corkscrew and it has, for some bizarre reason, a cocktail fork. Perfect excuse for carrying it into an art gallery though. :p

    Leatherman or SOG

The SOG says it has locking blades, isn't that a prison sentence nowadays if you get stopped with it? As far as I know the blade has to readily fold. I have a Leatherman, for me one of the must haves on it is a cork screw. I once sat in a hotel room with a closed reception, a bottle of wine...

It shouldn't be French polished, as a finish it isn't water resistant. It'll be a clear lacquer that can withstand the odd drop of water without spotting.

Replacing rusty wheel bolts - best replacement?

To an extent it does, but I thinly etch prime them so the paint sticks well. Then I apply a thin coat of paint. If you use a good quality socket it's fine. You can only really see the top of the bolt. Minor damage on the corners just doesn't show.
