Hi I have a lot fo experience of cars ( owning not fixing ! ).. I have had over 66 cars over the last 30 year, generally under 1500. Ive only ever lost money on one when a turbo went....but I have never had an older merc c class for that sort of money.. I will only do about 3000 miles a year...

Questions all this great advice raised more questions..which is great for example --am I better buying a rust free pre 99 320 rather than a good post 99 ? --what about a nice 230 Ideally I wanted to spend <£1000 as its going to be used a couple of times a week this one for example...

E320 By e320 are you talking about even early ones. I have see some nice 96/97 e320 3.2's on auto trader for less than £1500 with fish etc They look nice (on the web )
