    Snow Driving Tips

I find the E55 pretty useless on up inclines to the point that it barely made it up the front drive. It needs winter tyres I guess, so I use the Phaeton in snow and it has had no probs even on summer tyres.

    Porsche 928

MD5 - I suggest visiting this site and reading the 2010 928.org.uk Porsche 928 buyers guide (it's free, written by a 928 enthusiast and hugely informative): The 2010 928.org.uk Porsche 928 buyers guide More to the point, if you follow his advice you won't overpay or get in over your head...

    M25 Speed cameras

Times Newspaper. Seems elsewhere on forum someone wrote 'can confirm magistrates guidellines are to deaal with them as separate offences unless under exceptional circumstances'....who is closer to these things maybe?

    M25 Speed cameras

Definitely read of magistrates courts treating multiple speeding offences as a single offence eg when driver unaware of recent change to a speed limit. Courts don't exercise leniency towards speeding unless driver is young unlicenced asbo car thief in which case an earful plus suspended sentence.

    w210 Passenger seat occupancy sensor

The main warning of a fault is a red SRS (airbag) warning appearing on the lower right of the instrument display. Normally, it should illuminate briefly only when you turn on the ignition (as does the telltale airbag OFF light by the gearshift). I have never understood why two or three times...

    W211 Suspension Collapse

Where did it fracture? I had a W210 n/s spring break which proved to be near the lower tip where the cup support (perch) collected road water, so the spring tip sat in a salty bath throughout the winter, presumably. I had heard the spate of snapping is caused by using cheaper untreated...

    W210 tyre wear question

Another of M-B's little jokes. My E55 has an undersized steel too, though I have different sized fronts and rears. But the Phaeton has a full-size matching alloy spare and that can be handy if you don't always buy tyres in pairs.

    W210 tyre wear question

That makes sense. But when you replace the punctured one check the discrepancy between tread depths of L and R fronts is not above three mm and get the same tyre types or it will affect on the limit braking and handling, especially in the wet. Sometimes rotating the spare helps on this.

    Phaeton?

I went the other way: nearly bought a CLS 500 two years ago but instead preferred the Phaeton. I think it was down to all the things mentioned and I don't do such high miles so the 30+mpg of the 3-litre Cdi Phaeton was an improvement on the 24mpg the E55 was giving (trouble is, couldn't bring...

    W210 tyre wear question

I owned an E320 W210 saloon for 90,00 miles, driving it as you describe. I experienced higher wear rates on the outside edges of the fronts. The rears wore evenly and lasted 50% longer than the fronts so yes, tyre rotation is a sensible step. But strangely, not one that has been proposed by any...

    Phaeton?

I can't speak for others but after 30,000 miles from new mine has needed only routine servicing, which comes out at about £250 per visit. The suspension replacement issue arises from a mod to the air suspension post-2004 (I think) which requires all four units be updated to current spec if...

    Diesel Economy Experiment

Bikes use higher compression ratios than car engines. The CBR600RR's CR is 12:1 (my CBR1000RR has a 11.9:1 CR but it's a 2004 model; the current Fireblade CR is 12.2:1) and it's peak power is produced at 13,500rpm. A rapid flame-speed is crucial at those rpm for complete combusion and this is...

    Don't Lose Both Keys....

My guess is a new Registration document can be obtained from the DVLA by simple fraud and the old style driving licence is probably quite easy to forge. But making cars undriveable without a key means criminals carjack or housebreak instead. This is called progress.

    Cheap new unregistered E500s

How much for a new Exhaust & CAT (C270 CDI)

Had my E55 MoT'd today and its emissions were just fine and always would be according to the garage owner, as the legal emissions limits are higher than the normal uncatalysed emissions. He thought a catalyser was a legal requirement regardless although others seem to think differently.

    Cheap new unregistered E500s

I doubt the final buyer will learn their correct age and probably will think they're run-out models and be pleased to take something near the present discount. I had a similar experience on testing a 'new' current plate CLS500 with the 306bhp engine - which rather gave the game away. Maybe MB...
