Up to £1.34 a mile road charges

Is Paul Daniels still in this country? Jeez, I'd pay for him to be patriated elsewhere :D The bit I don't understand is why Mr Darling says he 'wants to free up space on the roads'... who for? The least effective road is an empty one, like the ones we have at night. Wouldn't it be a...

    No more Mercedes for me

Couldn't agree more. The UK has a culture of disparaging success, supported by the governments taxation rules. Best to buy your next car from a Car Supermarket and always take it to an independent specialist who actually cares that you come back next time and sees your car as an interesting...

    Waht should I offer?

There isn't a strong demand for such large cars although as the price keeps dropping they are getting into well off chav territory (very drug dealerish/pimpish/gang boss looking with dark tints and fhaat rubber) so the price may plateau. Look in Autotrader, you can get a mid nineties S class...

    Rover . . .

It's high time Rover just gave up. They've never made a good car, some good engines (but they were US V8s or Honda fours/sixes). Those 75 things are an abhoration, everytime I see one I just want to plough into it, especially the estates. Rover City aka Tata aka Rover 100 aka Mini Metro...

    Anyone got a CLS ?

Certainly turned my head - definitely the AMG model above looks better then the 'standard' model I saw (as usual), or at least it does in the pictures.

    Anyone got a CLS ?

Has anyone got, or is going to get, a CLS ? I saw one today and it looked... well... a bit odd. I didn't get a good look as it was going the other way but it looked a bit like a cross between an Alfa and a Jaguar and, dare I say it, a Hyundai Sonata !! [steps back and holds up hands to...

    Up The Rear

You should have no qualms about doing it the right way. Sure it might give you a warm feeling to save this blokes job but then he should've been more careful and stopped his car ten feet behind yours if he knew a small shunt means P45. Bad luck?- all his, fixed via insurance and good as new...

    Congestion Charge Rising to £8

It's a self destructive mechanism, if it works well there won't be enough people to pay to maintain the 'improved' public transport (as it does not pay for itself) then public transport will decline (further) and it'll just be like three years ago, but with no cars. Edinburgh voted against it...

Uneven tyre wear - advice please

Here's a link to some geometry info. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/align.jsp General link to some witty tyre/suspension info http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/index.html I find that the outside of the nearside front on my W140 does wear quicker than any part of any...

    Auto Or Manual

If you drive in heavy traffic ~ get an auto If you think the auto will suck power ~ get a bigger engine with an auto Of course, there's something nice about deciding when to change up, and more importantly down. Also it's a lot easier to rev the nuts off a manual and if you're looking for an...

W211 crash with police car - the result

Gruesome - but don't forget that these pics are after the rescue crews are done. They'll be the ones that have chopped the roof, doors, dash, seats out of the Skoda not the impact with the Merc. None the less, I'm sure the Skoda would've been heavily damaged before the 'jaws of life' destroyed...

    £20K number plate

Wow ! That is so cool. There was me scanning lists of registration numbers for ages online, not quite able to figure out how they would look if they were on my car and then 'Bingo' I spotted the 'View' hyperlink that can show me what the number plate would look like if made up, in either Yellow...

    Really For Dummies?

Quite. There can't be many Merc owners want to make their car look like a BMW eh? Else... like duh!... they'd have a bought a BMW. (that said I also have a BMW so I guess I could get one but why ?)

    Mpg again

Was that going from Ayr to Glasgow just at the start of the M77? It's downhill from there almost all the way to the Kingston bridge. My 420 goes off the econometer (i.e. more than 30mpg) at 85mph down the first big long hill on the M77. Of course it drops to between 10 and 0mpg all the way back...

    Approximate MPG of a 420SE?

I get about 15-20mpg with my 420, but like everyone says, if you're worried about fuel consumption don't buy a two ton car with an engine as large as a Fiat Cinqecento. I had a Mitsubishi Evo VI that never bettered 16mpg and would, with spirited driving i.e. end to end of the M40 in 40...

Gold Plated Sills - truly horrible !!

Hmmm... My car is blue... and with a creamy interior... I wonder... Noooo... Must resist... Must not be duped by colorful text... But all that gold, real gold... I'll be the talk of the town... The king of bling... Now where did I put my Paypal account? Naaaaahhhhh!

More road tax for 'gas guzzlers'

As for taking action... How about a day when we all take our number plates off. That would shock the government when they realised that it's only goodwill that allows them to track us, congestion charge us, fine us for speeding, prevent petrol theft, give us parking tickets, check our road fund...

More road tax for 'gas guzzlers'

Bang on Dieter - we've already paid vast amounts of tax when buying the car - car tax (not road fund licence) on a £70K car is considerably more than that of a £7K car (10 times to be exact) but does a £70K car produce 10 times as much CO2 - no. I don't actually think the government is...

    W202: Fuel tank capacity?

I let it get to a quarter then I can fit between 60 and 70 litres in. Luckily the fuel cap can be wedged into the fuel trigger or I'd fall asleep while filling it up, especially at those specially slow old BP pumps....zzzz....zzzz....zzzz

    Recycling who joins in

My wife told them where they could shove their multitude of bins and they took them away and collect our mixed up rubbish bin every week. How much more energy does it waste losing all that heat out your door as you take every scrap of rubbish to the right bin? Besides - I go through a gallon...
