    W245 - I can hear it rusting

Yeah the work was first-rate, but there's a lot to do. Perhaps I'll give them a call and go that way to work one day and see what they think... Cheers, Dan.

    W245 - I can hear it rusting

So the wifes W245 has rusty rear arches *again* and while MB are doing a dance, I'm expecting they are going to just laugh at me when it comes to sorting it out. Yesterday, also found that the boot-floor-pan with the spare wheel in was like a swimming pool. The reason - water is coming in from...

    W245 Air-Con - help?!

So it was working fine last week. Then it started to make a high-pitched whistling noise when the fan was on. I assumed this was the fan, but then noticed it doesn't make the noise when the ignition isn't started (i.e. the air-con compressor etc. isn't running - just the fan). It was a...

    Bodyshop Respray Quote

Where are you - I'm sure folks on here can suggest a suitably recommended bodyshop :) If it's north London - there's a fantastic one in Epping :) D.

    B Class CVT Transmission Failure

It was probably the clutch pack that had failed if it was juddering - and if that's the case, then it was probably always "suspect" it just took that long to actually give out on you.... D.

    Nankang Tyres

I noted Dunny had come back to form, interestingly around about the time Falken started producing mainstream excellent tyres (ZE912/KF452 were both very good, rest of range - useless here by all accounts. The thing to remember is, even with MO rated tyres, at the end of the day - they come out...

    Nankang Tyres

It is as "level" as the EU harmonised tests for fuel economy - everyone is supposed to run the "same" test, and they can notionally be "inspected" (but god knows who would actually be responsible for it as I can't see the EU doing it themselves, it would be contracted out to someone who would...

    Nankang Tyres

Can open, worms all over the place - this one will run and run. You have to remember that the new EU tests are 3-part: 1 - fuel burn (so rolling resistance) 2 - wet grip 3 - noise All are rated to the same scale, and it is quite interesting to see what that has done to the market. HOWEVER...

    W245 Servicing Question

Erm, now that gives me another question. Just checked ESS and it says the next one is an A service, not a B, but it was A last time. I've put in all the info and accurate mileage as of today, then extrapolated for the mileage when it will come due and both are "A" plus dust filter, air filter...

    W245 Servicing Question

Wifes B180 CDi (2005) is coming up on it's next service - and it is a "B". As far as I can tell, there doesn't actually appear to be anything extra done on the "B" vs. the "A"? They both seem to feature just an oil/filter change and a check round everything? They will tell me at this service...

    Autoglass

Wife got 2 large cracks in hers from pothole debris in Feb. She took it in to Autoglass without knowing that was who our insurers use, they checked her policy (actually they phoned the number on her paperwork and it was their call-centre it went to ;-), and then proceeded to check everything...

    Cheaper tyres

I had new rubber put on the wifes W245 on Friday by the lovely folks at Event Tyres (the mobile fitters, not the mfrs of one of the cheapies). I did a run round of everywhere and the prices across the same tyres were alarmingly different! Opted for Hankook Ventus Prime 2XL on hers, to replace...

engine not reving past 3000revs on W210 E 320 cdi

Exactly the same problem on our W245. New EGR at main dealer was 146 after a little bit of goodwill.... D.

    W245 tyre choice

Thanks for the feedback - think we've got a couple of thousand miles max before I need to make the decision, but the steering on the B is wallowy at best, so the stiffer sides and load rating should go together to make it much more responsive :)

    W245 tyre choice

Given the ride on all B-Class is at best un-refined, I don't think I'm too worried about that - it's crashy and noisy anyway - and it's not the sport! Load rating I have covered, the Falkens are more than the Conti's anyway and the others i've been looking at are the same or better.... Cheers...

    W245 tyre choice

SWMBO's B will shortly be needing new fronts. It's been running Falken ZE912's which have been a breath of fresh air compared to the cheese-like noisy Conti's that MB supplied it with - and have lasted almost twice as many miles....however, 912's are history and 914's are now the norm (and I...

    B180 Sqeaky noise from belt/pulleys

Our B180 had something similar and they replaced the Poly-V belt with the new design under warranty, also replaced the tensioners etc. Trouble is the new ones dont seem to last as long as they are already reporting wear on this one at 2.5 years old vs the old one that was nearly 5 years old.....

    Continued....W245 - still doing odd things - 180CDI

Got the car back last night after a surprisingly reasonable repair - I was prepared for 2-300 quid for an EGR valve plus a couple of hours fitting it. They reviewed the situation and given the problems only lifted £140 off me to the part AND the fitting. Car sounds totally different now, it's...

    Continued....W245 - still doing odd things - 180CDI

Ah, maybe a result. They've just called to say on further dis-mantling, it's the EGR valve - it's sticking, and while it passes its self-test, it is sticking in certain positions causing the light to come on. It's been replaced, and they've already done a few journeys in it and it's looking...

    Continued....W245 - still doing odd things - 180CDI

Well it went back to the garage less than 5 hours after leaving as the light came back on again and it went into limp mode - and the EGR is reporting a fault. Waiting to hear now what their plan is - as they still aren't convinced that it's the problem.... Cheers, Dan.
