    2004 sl500

Hi all, first of I'd like to thank everyone for the support you have all shown Richard's family. However the time has come to sell his beloved SL. The car truly was his pride and joy, and it saddens me to have to sell it, but I know he would have wanted it to go to a good home and another...

    Windbreak

Malcolm I completely agree, the windbreak opens up more opportunities to go topless, particularly in winter. They also find more favour with the fairer sex !

    Rusty Wheel Bolts cured!?

When dealers fit locking bolts to new cars they have four of the new black ones left over. Technically these are "used". On the other forum someone from an MB dealer is selling them for £2 each which is much less than the new price. Ask your dealer if they will match that ?

    Windbreak

It does cover up the rear seat but you can still get things in there by flipping the front seat forwards. At least it stops stuff blowing off and out of the rear seat !

    Windbreak

Absolutely yes. The difference with the windbreaker up is phenomenal. My wife even tolerates roof down driving in the winter with the windbreaker up and the heated seats on. Buffeting is dramatically reduced.

    A car for my son

Thanks thats really useful. No auto box or electric windows and its a 2006 so appears to be in the 92% reliability camp. Probably doesnt have aircon though as that seems to have been an extra. Still for £1250 its a bargain !

Thanks. I am not clear on whether or not unisex rates now apply but boys used to cost multiples of girls rates.

    A car for my son

My friend wouldnt even know what a cam belt is ! He will however have only ever taken it to a Renault dealer so it has probably been changed already. It certainly wasnt on last weeks service invoice so I am pretty confident it has been done. He is my best friend and wouldnt do that to me knowingly.

    A car for my son

Every one I have looked at on Pistonheads and Autotrader has aircon ....... Mine is uber basic though and even has manual windows so lets see ? It has a belt not a chain so that needs investigating.

    A car for my son

It appears to have a cam belt changeable at 6 years or 72k miles so I need to see if it has been done

    A car for my son

The trouble with forums is that people mostly only post negatives. Rarely does anyone go on to say how great their car is. My CLK has been fantastic in every respect but this is the first time I have said that on here. My friend has had absolutely no problems with the car and if you go by forum...

    A car for my son

A friend has just offered me his wifes 2006 Clio 1.2 for £1250 and needless to say I bit his arm off ! One owner, full Renault service history, £400 last week including MOT. 40k miles. Its absolutely basic but at that price who cares ? I dont know anything about Clios - any pointers ? Do they...

Private plates - Yes or No?

Did I read recently that DVLA have changed their rules on personalised numbers on a SORNEd car ? I think they have intoduced a time limit on SORN beyond which the right to use the personalised reg number is lost. Sneaky !

Private plates - Yes or No?

DVLA call them " personalised ". An individual is given permission by DVLA to display them on a specific vehicle. The vehicle owner can apply for permission to move the number to another vehicle at a later time. If they sell the car the number will go with it to the new owner unless the buyer...

Private plates - Yes or No?

The number will always belong to DVLA. They grant a permit to an individual (the grantee) for it to be used on a specific vehicle. The car owner can subsequently apply for permission to move it to another vehicle.
