Notchy gears on a C220cdi six speed

Sorry to resurrect an oldish thread but I just changed the oil in my manual gearbox to Redline MTL. I always change the manual gear lube every other major service (c35K) with MB supplied lube. The gearbox has never been exactly quick shifting. What a transformation after filling with MTL...

    OEM Brake Parts

I agree with the OP that the quality of brake components is critical. Last year I was tempted by the cheaper Eicher disks (fitted with Pagid pads) but I learnt my lesson. They are being replaced with ATE all round, which is what my callipers are. So which is it Gentlemen, are Textar and...

    Which replacement shocks

Fitting the shocks went well (apart from getting soaked when it rained). Springs and bushes look OK. The Sachs gas mono-tube shocks give a lovely, quiet and comfortable ride but still manage to keep body roll under control. In short, it rides like a Mercedes again. Well pleased. Thanks again.

Why mix mono-tube and twin-tube shocks?

Thanks Grober. The KYB clip you linked seems to cite few if any advantages for the twin-tube other than being great at making mayonnaise, while the mono-tube (cue the celestial choirs) has all the performance advantages. If so, is Mercs mix and match practice price based then? It seems a...

Why mix mono-tube and twin-tube shocks?

While scouting around for a deal on some OEM shocks for my S202 (thanks again for the kind advice gents), I noticed the Sachs catalogue seems to list the older Mercs as having gas mono-tubes all round but most of the newer Merc models (except the highest performance ones) have twin-tubes on the...

    Which replacement shocks

Much obliged gents, a great help. I was swayed towards Sachs based on your helpful comments as they are most likely to be close to standard spec. I managed to get a set of Sachs (gas mono-tubes) for £220 from France.

    Which replacement shocks

:)Much obliged gents. My faithful car is a w202 c220cdi T reg. Non-sport suspension-estate. It is still running so nicely that it is not worth changing it (apart from the tired dampers). It has conventional shocks on the back (think they are gas mono-tube). (Anyone know what H10 in large red...

    Which replacement shocks

I would be most grateful for any advice from the MBC hive knowledge. It feels like time to change the shocks on my W202 estate as the car is starting to jostle the occupants on bumps and feel a bit bouncy bouncy. Just want reasonable OEM parts that don’t affect the insurance but what do...

Does battery condition affect common rail injection?

Thanks Gents. A month on and the car is definitely running better. It flew through the MOT emission test - only 25% of the emissions limit, which is not bad for an old-timer with 170K. Might change the alternator regulator at the next service.

Does battery condition affect common rail injection?

I recently load tested the Varta battery in my W202 C220 CDi. It showed up as ‘weak’ despite being regularly conditioned with a CTEK charger and was only about three and a half years old. I suspect it has a faulty cell. I replaced it. It is no surprise that the car now starts in a more...

    Is it a coincidence?

I recently posted to ask why the alarm in my 1999 C220 CDi goes off for about three seconds when the alarm is armed. My dealer suggested the siren was on the way out which I was going to replace. Strangely, the alarm has been working normally since I replaced the (stuck open) engine...

How to quell an overly exuberant W202 alarm?

Firstly, thanks for being such a great resource. This is a rare occasion where I have not been able to find a solution in the searches, so I would be most grateful if any of you notable experts could give me a pointer why this happens on may face-lifted 1999 C220 CDi: Normally my alarm give...

    Leaking C220CDi footwell

Thanks very much Fuzzer. Sorted! Found a combination of leaves, water and crumbly cement in the drain! Will investigate the blower/pollen filter as well.

    Leaking C220CDi footwell

Dear All This is my first post on this forum and I would be most grateful for your expert advice. The front passenger footwell on my 1999 V reg C220 CDi estate has just developed a bad water leak during rain. A local building site has been convering our cars with building dust for weeks...
