Cheers for the info. Its too late for that now unfortunately. We're moving to Switzerland in 3 weeks, taking the car with us. Not sure MB Switzerland will have the slightest interest in sorting out rust on an imported car.

There's no rust on the front doors (yet).

As a result of this thread I noticed rust on the rear doors or our 2005 W169 A Class. A claim was submitted to MB via my dealer which was approved. The car is currently in the Dealer's bodyshop having two new doors fitted. Bit annoyed that this is the second MB we have owned that has had rust...

As a result of this thread I tool a close look at our 2005 W169 and sure enough found rust along the seams of the rear doors. Dealer has submitted a claim to MB for 2 new doors. Hope to find out any day whether it has been approved. I damn well hope so!

Plenty of intolerance on display in this thread. Fortunately, I'm off to live Switzerland where cyclists are part of the culture, and cycling is a far more pleasant experience.

Forgot to say, car tax and MOT valid until September 2011. Oh and because this is an older car, it is not taxed on emissions so the tax is ~£225 instead of the £400 for more recent cars :)

The E350 CDI does not suffer from the injector problems, so no problems with reliability. Mercs are expensive to service though the main dealer network, unfortunately!

Due to the injector problem on the new diesels (no fix as yet from MB), I'd try and find the extra money for an E350 if you can.

i dont give a monkeys where stuff is made, as long as it is well designed, properly engineered and built to high quality.

Earlier 722.6 transmissions were 'sealed for life' with no ATF replacement specified. MB changed service requirements on later cars to include an ATF change at 40k miles.

Not only that, my local MB dealer refused to do it for me as it is 'sealed for life'.

true, but the 0W40 oil will get through the oilways more quickly and reduce top end clatter on cold start. Well it does on both of my cars anyway.

I think its completely normal. Don't worry about it. If it continues for more than a few seconds after start up then an engine flush may help. I'd also use 0W40 fully synthetic oil as well.

Sounds like you could be low on Transmission fluid. I'd get that checked first. Would be best to get it changed if the car has done over 50k miles.
