    R Class

We were keen on a 7-seat R-class. Until we actually sat in one. The middle seat in the middle row is an after-thought and is too narrow to be comfortable(for us). In all other respects I think they are good cars.

    Has Artico completely replaced leather?

enjoyed the Christmas markets? We did. But enjoyed the bier cellars more! Such a civilised way of drinking and eating too much.

    GL/ML info needed - help

The problem with the R is that it isn't a 7-seater - more a 6.5 seater. The middle seat in the middle row is just too compromised. Which ruled it out for us - which is a shame as I like the car otherwise. If Mercedes could fit 3 normal size seats in the middle row instead of 2 USA-sized seats...

    ML 320 or E 350 Coupe?

Interesting thread, this. When I bought my E280 Sport Estate, I nearly went for an ML320, but didn't. I have winter tyres so grip in the snow is no problem, but with 3 growing kids I could do with more internal space than the E ... hence me looking at MLs again! Just got back from the alps -...

You're right, it won't be coming here. They are such teasers, those Germans, aren't they?

Mobilo rescue and a 212 Sport E class for ME!!!

I have no problem with frameless doors. But my Mum did, many years ago. She came back from a New Year's Day party and stumbled out of the passenger door of dad's Citroen DS Pallas, blind drunk. She slammed the door shut without letting the seat-belt buckle fully retract. The frameless door...

    Which W209 CLK?

Must have been a real orphan to be left out on a wind-swept disused airfield for all that time!

Driving a C63 fitted with Winter Tyres

Now you've fitted some winter tyres, you had better hope we get some more snow - because they are great fun. Boot it and the tail will be out having a wail of a time, but when you want to get somewhere safely, drive normally, and you'll get there. That's my experience with the Michelin Pilot...

    Which W209 CLK?

Blimey, she's a bit of a part-timer, then. I too would aim for a facelift model - muich nicer overall. We've got a 200k in the cab body. No ball of fire, but smooth enough - ideal for the Mrs!

E280 CDI SPORT or NOT ?!

I've had 2 pre-facelift Avantgarde estates, and now drive a facelift 280 Sports Estate. The Sport is firmer but nicer overall in my opinion (sharper steering, nicer seats) without being excessive - it's still a great motorway car. Unlike the BMW M-Sports that I have driven which were really...

    Anyone remapped a C220CDI estate?

Rumours are that chipping/remapping will be an MOT failure in the future, along with DIY HID/xenon headlights.

    Best Estate.

But the OP Has a "V230 Ambiente" which makes it a Mk1 Vito van with windows and seats, doesn't it?

    Mercedes Diesel Vs Petrol

We've had 7 Mercs - 5 diesel and 2 petrol. None of them has ever let us down (must be the way I look after them ;)) although 1 failed EGR valve on a 270CDI made it rather smokey.

    C320CDI estate

All C320CDIs are facelift, and there is a marked improvement in quality (as well as nicer interior, dials, etc.) I had a C320CDI estate and they are fantastic cars. I had a C270CDI estate before and the 320 was a significant improvement on the 270. My 320 was an Avantgarde SE (as opposed to...

    Comand Stolen

It drops down electrically from the light fitting to the middle of the roof, but not straight away, and then retracts again when you unlock the car. Having seen Alfie fit a Comand before, I know it couldn't have been done in 1 minute, and certainly not without removing the trim as mentioned...

    W211 Euro 4?

There are a few I6 320CDI E-classes which are Euro 4, but most are Euro 3. I've driven I6 320CDIs of both types and the Euro3 drive better than Euro 4, as well as being simpler, lower emissions and thus cheaper to tax! But that's emissions progress for you!

Dreaded Glow Plug warning light -- again

This has started to happen on my E280CDI today (50,000, 3 years old next month) - the plug warning light stays on for 1 or 2 mins after starting from cold. Nothing in the handbook about what it means, so I guess I'll get them replaced before the warranty runs out!
