    Finding the best deal

I am on grant income... as opposed to the regular students that pay for their taught course. There is another similar question, and the answer to that is simply 'in full time education' so the combination of both seems reasonable, doesn't it?

    Finding the best deal

Grrrr £760 is my current cheapest. Would you say that it is reasonable to say that I am 'Research Scientist' as this is all I do everyday despite the 'student' label which does seem to have extremely negative effect on my premiums? At the end of the day I am working at the faculty of science...

    Finding the best deal

So it's this time of year again, with about a month to go. I'm currently with Tesco, and their renewal was £870. I got it down to £804 just by phoning and complaining a little. Obviously this is still too high. About me and the car: - will be 28 by then, 2 NCB, no fault claims (one...

New tyres - Bridgestone A001 any good?

Just bought those Bridgestones. The car is already handling much better even on the icy roads. The only question now is whether they would survive a "summer" in Bristol without excessive wear. This year I can only remember rain. There was some sunshine back in April though...

    205/55/16 91 Tyres

I've just upgraded to a set of new winter-all season bridgestones and will probably use them all year round The following are therefore for sale: 2x Pirelli P7 - £60 5mm+ on both, fitted on the front, made in 2011. 91V and 91W Continental PremiumContact - £100 mk1 and mk2 6mm+ on...

    Ouch!

It's all drivers' fault. The first one to crash was guilty of the initial crash - all the others didn't keep safe distance and crash too. All of them are to blame. Why can't people just keep the distance?

New tyres - Bridgestone A001 any good?

Might do, but to be honest P7's don't get the best reviews for that exact problem, and they are really no good for the winter anyway.

New tyres - Bridgestone A001 any good?

I am probably going to swap my tyres soon. Currently it's got 2x Pirelli P7 on the front and Continental Premium Contact I/II on the rear, with mixed speed ratings (W and V) - all seem to have 6-7mm left. The problem is there is too much front wheelspin on wet surface (traction control doesn't...

    Computer diagnostic equipment?

Excellent. Downloading now. It will be much easier than lugging a laptop to all these cars. What's the difference between ebay and other adaptors?

I think I am going to pull the plug very soon

I have found many reports of 2.0 TDI going wrong in different ways. Injector and turbo failures seem to be quite common. Skoda's seem to have slightly better version of it though - Passats 2.0 also fail with oil pump issues, destroying the whole engine. So I am going to avoid that engine even if...

I think I am going to pull the plug very soon

Good news, I have waived goodbye to the A-Class. Time to shop around, except, I have to rely on public transport now Would you say YES or NO to a stop gap cheap runaround car {old petrol Accord / Corolla / S40 or golf / passat tdi}? At the end of the day a big nice diesel Skoda is what I want...

    c43 amg gearbox

you could always give SY motors in Birmingham a ring - they seem cheaper and do the job well. I take it you haven't checked g'box oil for a while... This seems to be a common problem everywhere you turn.

17" AMG wheels with tyres (w168 for PX)

I am selling my A-class fitted genuine original 17" AMG wheels, but as the market is very tough at the moment, I may need to consider swapping the wheels to reduce the price a little bit :( Hopefully someone is looking to pimp their car a bit. I suspect these may fit C or E class, but please...

I think I am going to pull the plug very soon

Usually it would have minimal load, and just 1-2 people incl. me. It is going to be driven uphill a lot. How much could be gained by chipping 105 (and what would happen with insurance in practice)? 1.9 105 - 250 Nm 2.0 140 - 320 Nm 1.9 130 - 285 Nm A170 CDI - 180 Nm (but could mine be boosted...

I think I am going to pull the plug very soon

Spoken to a mechanic yesterday. He thinks I should go for 130+ bhp engine, as anything less is 'not powerful enough' in a family saloon / estate (He's got 6L!). Could I get a second opinion on this? I do drive quite a lot in town, many many hills, some 10% and even 25%, and motorway to top it...

Having 2 cars for a short amount of time? Bad idea or any way to keep the cost down?

The plan was to sell the current car, and buy something bigger and more powerful. The market is currently over saturated, and I am really struggling to attract any attention, when there are some good deals to be had on the cars I want. It may take a while till the day I sell, and then I...

    Computer diagnostic equipment?

Well firstly I'd like to check if the cars I am going to buy have any significant faults. I simply can't afford to buy lemon this time round. Secondly, I would want one to keep my and my dad's car in reasonable condition and be able to detect faults early on. Being able to erase error codes can...

    Computer diagnostic equipment?

I wanted to get some affordable diagnostic equipment to check my car, my dad's car, and help me with the search and purchase of a new (used) car. It need not be new, as long as it supports 5-6+ year old cars, including VW, Skoda, Toyota, Merc, perhaps Ford. Used is fine. Thanks in advance.
