W202 C220D Does a broken pump mean its a write off?

this is the news I wanted! :) can you tell me what the plungers are called or point me at a how to somewhere? Having spoken to my local specialist, MB Motors, they would replace the pump regardless which is not going to be cheap!

W202 C220D Does a broken pump mean its a write off?

I was suspecting as much - just didn't want to admit it! ;) However, as I understand it, this car doesn't have a Bosch pump - I think its a Lucas one. Does that make it a different matter?

W202 C220D Does a broken pump mean its a write off?

A few weeks ago, my 1997 W202 C220D didn't start. It was still warm from doing a 45 mile motorway trip, so I realised it was possibly a fuel pump problem. Having had a quick look at the fuel filter, it didn't look like any fuel was getting to it, so I resigned myself to having to taking it...

Buying land with no planning permission

Before you buy anything - be careful who you talk to! You might find that in a planning dept of the council you are in, information is a little loose and you might find that some lobbying might be arranged against you if you are going to do something slightly controvertial. Talk to a...

It's easy to get loads of personal info

The problem comes when things get taken out of context - which is easily done when you come in half way on a conversation which isn't really related to the end issue. I remember one comment I put on-line once which caused me problems 5 years after I pressed the send button! We are...

    Too ostentatious?

The range rover Sport is everywhere - screams I wish I could afford the car I'm actually driving! The Vogue is a classier car, and not quite so bling - its still an old money type of car! The Merc is lovely, and mechanically will last longer than either RR. But its image is a bit mumsy for...

    Last nights Top Gear

I liked the show! Yes its scripted, yes the whole Two jags thing was set up, as was the breakdowns, but what else were you going to watch? Guess nobody was brave enough to mention that the lots of the extra 7 million cars on the road were due to the new residents Labour let in! Prescott...

    Petrol Price

Fuel prices are mad, but its mostly down to how they are made up that defines if they are high or affordable. Firstly Oil is sold in Dollars, so the exchange rate makes a huge difference - in fact the majority of the cost over the past two years has been down to the pound loosing its value...

Oil change on 1999 C180 (W202) - National or DIY?

I changed the oil on my W202 C180 (when I had one) and was surprised by how easy it was! Did the oil change on my new to me C220 Diesel and it was the easiest oil change ever! So much easier than the Trooper I had before!

    Morons

I thought it was cool! :) There was plenty of diesel on the ground so the majority of that smoke was burning fuel not rubber, and the engine wouldn't have been damaged as they do have limiters on these modern cars, don't they? - but then, you get burnouts done in bike shows all the time, and...

Where are the other colour codes?

I have a S202 in 702 Smoke Silver. But ,its two tone with the bumpers in a slightly darker colour - but where do I find the code for that colour? It isn't with the 702 on the ID plate, so is it a formula where one colour always goes with another or do I need to talk to the dealer?

How would YOU improve "Top Gear" ? ? ?

Some interesting ideas - but I can't see Top Gear changing - its the BBC's biggest money maker! The format does need to change, but, everything they have in there is there for a reason. Star in a reasonably priced car is to do with increasing the show's budget by giving it a entertainment...

Could all the W202 owners please make themselves known

Just bought my 3rd W202. The first was a 93 C180 manual - did 185K miles in it before I sold it in 2004! Second was a C230 auto - only did about 30K miles in that one (work reasons) Few days ago, bought a 97 C220 Diesel Estate manual - this one is just perfect, (a few spots of rust on...

Back in the club, is this a sign?

Thanks to you all! Well, had a nice spin in the car this weekend, covered about 270 miles or so, and nothing to report! I am going to enjoy this car! :)

Back in the club, is this a sign?

Thought I should say hello - just bought my 4th Mercedes, and 3rd W202, after a stint in a 4x4 Isuzu Trooper. Got me a poverty spec 97 C220 Diesel Estate, and having done 150 miles in it over the last 24 hours, it seems in great condition! Will post pics when I get around to it, but the...

    ADSL Wireless Router

The date set for N ratification was meant to be 2007-8 but as with all of these companies who are guessing the final settings, it isnt much of a problem if you stick to one manufacturer. Dlink have just brought out a 144mb wireless system which is making a mockery of the whole process!

    Top Gear back this Sunday!

anyone know where I might find a Tiff sux website? He is probably the worst motoring tv presenter out there! A funny story I heard ... They do some of their testing in Anglesey - the local circuit - and his time in a 996 was a second slower than one of the local girls who drives a luke...

hesitant at move off - backfiring

I couldnt inagine it would be thew MAF - there is no way it could die in just 2000 miles? - or could there? The inlet air leak sounds feasable - with the problem being slightly irregular, should I be looking for tired pipes, cracked etc - or could it be a pipe that isnt in place? thanks...
