    2006 S211 E220CDI Avantgarde facelift E-Class estate

OK, the time has come after three-and-a-half years and 76k miles. A company car offer I really can't refuse means my S211 is up for sale. I'll put some pictures up tomorrow once I have some daylight; here are the usual details: Cubanite Silver (sort of pale champagne colour) 170PS...

    Advice for looking cool

A guy asks some friends how to look cool as he "matures". They jokingly tell him to get a black convertible, put a baseball cap on and drive around with some "hos". My dashcam spotted him, keepin' it "reel":

    Engine mount diagnosis please (video)

In my continuing vibration hunt, the finger of suspicion is now pointing at my engine mounts. I've taken a quick video of start-up, followed by applying a tiny amount of throttle in Drive and Reverse with the brakes on, then shut-down. I'd appreciate any input on this. The movement doesn't...

    Anyone have a 16" W211 wheel I can borrow?

My car has a slight vibration that's proving difficult to track down. I'd like to eliminate (or preferably implicate) a very slightly warped alloy as the culprit. Unfortunately, the main speed at which the vibration shows is above the limit for the space saver spare I have. Long shot, but does...

    W211 6-CD changer, MP3 compatible

I've now removed my CD changer and am offering it up for sale on the fora for a few days before going to eBay. This is the pop-out 6-CD changer that hides behind the hazard switch panel on the W211. Part number is A2118706189, and is from my post-facelift car - one of the first facelift 211s...

    C63 too slow?

How about the V63, then? Väth supercharges the Mercedes-Benz C63 Black to 756 ludicrous horsepower   :D :D

    Wikipedia rules...

My daughter came into the house saying she'd just seen an interesting old car with numberplate OAD 24 with a winged bonnet badge - could I look it up? I'd noticed that there was an Austin A30/A35 owners' day near our house and recalled the winged Austin badge, so I decided to open the Wikipedia...

    Trip computer mpg accuracy

Here are my findings after seven months and over 13k miles. At each re-fuelling, which tends to be from nearly empty to completely full, I record the "From reset" mpg figure and reset the computer. On average, the computer reads about 2mpg better than actual.

    Fog and the bonnet star

Driving to work through thick fog this morning, I found I continually needed to wipe the windscreen due to spray on the lower centre part of the glass. I eventually worked out this was from fog condensing on the bonnet star then "raining" backwards in the air stream onto the screen. I think...

COMAND-APS nav v10: France TMC instructions?

I've just bought an updated map DVD (v10 to replace my v5) from eBay. One of the new features on the disc is TMC coverage in France, but the disc box says to see the instructions to activate it. Sadly, my box didn't contain any instructions. Does anyone know what to do to activate France TMC...

The importance of winter tyres... in 1812

BBC News - Napoleon's failure: For the want of a winter horseshoe Napoleon entered Moscow in mid-September with only a quarter of his original strength. But Tsar Alexander I's refusal to sue for peace, and the problems of supply caused by his "scorched earth" policy, gave Napoleon little option...

    S211 tailgate & gas struts

I have an S211 without the magic powered opening tailgate. Can anyone confirm for me that the tailgate should lift itself up once I've opened it a bit? Mine will hold itself up but needs pushing right from opening to full height. I suspect the gas struts are getting a bit tired. I have the WIS...

    S211 dominant noise?

I've had my S211 for two months now, and it's behaving very nicely, although a few bits of works have needed doing (tyres, ball joints, caster arms, front discs, injector seal). I'm concerned that I may have a minor driveline issue, which I'm suspecting to be propshaft centre bearing or UJ...

Removing stuck brake discs - tip (W211)

I've just replaced the front discs on my S211 with Pagid ones from ECP (great price & service btw, thanks!). One of the discs came off with no problem, but the other was firmly stuck to the hub. Most of the internet seemed to be advocating the use of successively larger hammers to remove it...

    Honesty is the best policy

I ordered a Sealey TP69 oil extractor from a supplier who shall remain nameless to protect their reputation. Delivery date was quoted as between 7-11 October - as it's the 12th, I dropped them an email to check where it was. Just received a phone call "Really sorry mate, totally our fault, we...

    Headlamp switch illumination?

W211, post-facelift: should the headlamp switch symbols (<P, P>, 0, auto, side, dip) be illuminated? Mine aren't, which seems like an odd omission in such a well-equipped car.

    "wheel bearing" noise

I've had my S211 E220 CDI for a grand total of six days now. I was getting concerned about the level of "thrumming" road noise from the o/s/r corner, thinking I might need new or adjusted wheel bearings. I already knew the car had different make tyres on each corner, so yesterday I jacked the...

    W211 estate buying advice needed

Morning team. As I mentioned in my new member welcome post, we're looking at getting a used W211 E-Class estate in the near future. The "competition", which I think the wife prefers at the moment, is a Ford S-MAX. We've always driven Fords as I used to work for them, and she has two problems...
