My SL55, gleaming silver and sumptuous red leather

Reluctantly selling my gorgeous SL55 after three years of unadulterated fun with this incredible super-car - at launch, the most powerful production car in the world. It's still blisteringly fast, but totally luxurious, with a throaty, classy exhaust note that just hints at what's under the...

I didn't want to hijack your thread about your car with pictures of mine, but here is the steering wheel and paddles: https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/hi-from-new-sl55-member.267033/#post-2991713

    Hi from new SL55 member

I just fitted a modified steering wheel from royalsteeringwheels.com and paddles from www.g-paddles.com Really transforms the feel of the wheel when driving. I was in two minds about it when first fitted, it's a compromise between the classic integrity of the car and a slightly more modern look...

R230 SL Rear Height Sensor Access

That's what the chap told me on the phone. But it seems to me you can't see the bottom of the link so fumbling around blind trying to work out how to undo it. I think if I'd done one before it would be easy, but first one, and nervous of breaking the sensor... Anyway I'll have another go like...

R230 SL Rear Height Sensor Access

Yes - I raise the car up then slide the trolley jack (which is a low profile one) under the back of the car and under the diff, but then there's no room for the handle to go up and down! petrol tank gets in the way.

I'm glad that car doesn't live in my road.

Welcome Serow - that's part of the fun of owning an interesting car, you don't expect them to behave themselves!

R230 SL Rear Height Sensor Access

OK nobody knows! In case anyone else finds this, the chap that sold me the adjustable links tells me it is a centre-punched plastic clip, like an interior panel clip. You push the centre of the pin upwards, it pops through, then you spend all day trying to find where the bit of plastic went. I...

Also I can thoroughly recommend the Royal Steering Wheel mod (thicker, alcantara, matching stitching, flat base etc) with the paddles you linked to from g-paddles - many thanks for that. Had the wheel fitted the other day, added the paddles in about an hour, absolutely delighted. Will post a pic...

    My SL55 AMG

Car looks amazing - though as you say it would look great lowered down a bit. I just bought some adjustable lowering links which are really well engineered and the guy was supportive on the phone - happy to give a link if you're interested. He recommends lowering by about 7cm with ABC, that's...

R230 SL Rear Height Sensor Access

Hello, I am hoping to fit adjustable height links on an SL55 R230 this weekend. The adjustable links go in place of the fixed-length OEM links between the height sensors and the suspension - you adjust the length of the links to make the car sit a bit lower, I'm sure everyone has seen them...

    My SL55 AMG

Thanks, I will avoid Shite Grill. Re the roof-liner trimming in dark alcantara - I was thinking the same about the light grey rear view mirror etc. So I was thinking I'd try and find a black SL from a breakers and just buy that front section of the roof interior - ie black plastic sun visors...

    SL 55 TOO LOUD!

Thanks - it isn't that. It's perfect at normal speeds, and I love the sound when accelerating. It's just at 80 and above on a long drive on the motorway it would be great to switch it off! Glad this thread has provoked discussion! Of course we're all schoolboys enjoying a burbly exhaust and an...

I like the grill in silver - I see they're available in various styles on ebay. One of the cars I looked at had that same one, I liked the look, but when I saw the car the whole grill was loose and the star was held in place with a bit of blue tack. Does yours seem decent quality? I was also...

    My SL55 AMG

TalkWrench, have you got a link for those "aesthetically pleasing paddles" you posted a photo of earlier please? I'm getting a retrimmed steering wheel from Mercedes-Benz | Royal Steering Wheels in a few days and I'd like to pop those paddles on at the same time. Many thanks - can't believe...

    SL 55 TOO LOUD!

It just passed the noise test at Thruxton - 85dB against a max of 90, but that wasn't under load, just holding at 4000 rpm. But I'm very happy to say the chap that sold me the car has found the original SL55 back boxes! So they're going on shortly.... then we'll see about the button to bypass...

Anyone seen any good number plates on cars lately?

I can't check through 1042 pages to see if it's been mentioned already... I lived on a houseboat in Cheyne Walk, Chelsea for a while. One of the big houses facing the river had two Bentleys: 2BE and NOT 2B They still have them though only one on a Bentley, every time I drive past I like to...

    My SL55 AMG

Thanks for this link. Are you planning on trimming the pillars and roof in this Milano/Alcantara? In the US, every SL55 had Alcantara trim as standard, whereas in the UK it's fairly rare. So most of us are stuck with cheap-looking grey plastic pillars. I'm planning on trimming all that plastic...
