    Vito W638 clocks...malfunctioning, of course.

Thanks, DdV. I'll try your suggestions. The wiring in the door boot may well be an issue, as my central locking has the dreaded lock-unlock-lock sickness. If that's the case, it'll be a relatively easy fix. If it's a red herring, and the problem lies elsewhere...then it could be a nightmare...

    Vito W638 clocks...malfunctioning, of course.

Hi there, SPX. Yes...a second opinion would be a good idea. Shame that the only place I could take the bloody thing to around here is about 50 miles away They attempted to diagnose the issue with the clocks some time ago (before I had them rebuilt) via the diagnostic socket under the...

    Vito W638 clocks...malfunctioning, of course.

I have a 2001 W638 Vito, ex-Traveliner, now a dayvan conversion. The interior-fittings-part of the conversion was a DIY job (although to a superb standard - the previous owner fitted out canal boats), but the auxiliary electrical system (leisure battery, split-charging system, etc) was installed...

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

Some very useful information there. I'll remember to be in contact when I am hunting for a replacement for this miserable Vito. Meanwhile, I've enjoyed the chat. Love your avatar too, btw - it's years since I've seen that photo, and it's a classic. Cheers, and take care.

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

Always rather liked the look of the Vivaro/Trafic/Primastar. Heard about some gearbox issues though - have these been sorted out, or were they never there? I certainly hear you with regards to servicing and parts - two areas with which I am dreading making a closer acquaintance in the future...

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

...and I know that this depends somewhat on budget, but - in your capacity as a van dealer - what would you recommend as a Vito alternative in the sub-£6-7k bracket?

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

Funny thing is, I read somewhere that the W638 Vito is based on a VW Transporter platform, albeit with different engines and bodywork. Yet the VW is so highly rated, and the Vito not so... how did Mercedes get it so wrong?

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

Ha ha. Yes, except mine would be reading 7,00rpm at tickover, too. And the LED readout is kaput.

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

Yes, it would appear that I made a slightly hasty decision in buying this van, and the news just keeps on getting better! In time, I have tried to get used to the wobbly handling, white-knuckle understeer, and frankly terrifying brakes. Oh, and the bizarre driving position, apparently...

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

It's a 2001. Bog-standard, as far as I am aware. It has enough zip when everything is on the level, but hills always mean foot-to-the-floor...and wait... Fuel economy is poor too - averaging 28mpg at best on a run.

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

Hmmm... I've done a little more reading. It seems that I would need o have the new ECU programmed to the exact specs of my vehicle, to match injector codes, etc. Perhaps it would be easier to get my own ECU remapped for more power and torque...

    Vito 108cdi tuning/remap

Hello. My ancient 108cdi dayvan's power output is adequate, at best. Would anyone out there know if it is possible to remap these engines? I know that the 108, 110, and 120 all used the same powerplant, but were the differences in output merely down to electronic mapping, or was there also a...

Poor brakes & front-end grip on '02 Vito 108 cdi

Well the suspension is standard, I would say. It definitely hasn't been lowered, and nowhere is the suspension too stiff, believe me! The tyres are in good condition, although I would say that the previous owner selected them with an eye on his budget, and with more interest in high milage...

    '02 Vito 108cdi clocks...

I recently sent the instrument panel off to be rebuilt by ACtronics, who returned it with a clean bill of health. At first, all seemed fine, but now they operate intermittently. Whilst driving, there appears to be an occasional complete loss of power to the clocks, causing the speedo and tacho...

Poor brakes & front-end grip on '02 Vito 108 cdi

Hi. My 2002 Vito 108cdi (ex-Traveliner, now dayvan conversion) seems to be in possession of a braking system that can only be described as terrifyingly inadequate. The brake pedal requires a very firm right foot, and, even on dry roads, slows to a leisurely stop at best. On wet roads, there is...

Cold starting issue '02 Vito 108cdi

Hello. I have several problems with my 2002 108cdi, posted in various parts of this site, but as this is an engine issue, it gets posted here... The van starts immediately from cold, but dies again after running for 2-3 seconds. This happens whether I don't touch the accelerator pedal at...
