my 124 manual states "economy" and "standard",I find that mine feels quite sluggish in eco so I leave it in S all the time,certainly brightens up the performance without a noticable dip in economy

My E220 estate does about 27-28 locally and around 34 on a long trip,I would expect your's to do similar.

Sounds like the part you need is the detachable swan neck/towball,they come up on ebay occasionally so have a look there

Get your mot done before march,gives you 12 months to sort it out then.

But quite a reasonable alternative!,some of the bodywork looked very nice:devil:
